Sep 4 - and I'm off

Emma wrote a sad face on the calendar for the day because I was leaving and a happy face for Monday, because I'll be there.  Cute !  I may be sleeping Monday ...

I left Reading about 9:30 and got to Debbie's about 10:45, having stopped for fuel along the way.  That was silly, of course, because it was cheaper in Delaware ... shoulda thought of that !

From Debbie's in Malvern, the route to Leesburg is south on 202 until it meets up with I95, through Wilmington, Baltimore and The Beltway West and then towards Dulles and Leesburg.  It's a long time since I've driven the west beltway, probably to get to a Raytheon meeting.  Yes, that long ago.

I was realizing as I had that thought that I've now been retired eight (8) years.  That's amazing.  Could I go back and do what I did ?  I probably could but certainly don't have any desire to do so !

I got to Leesburg about 2:30, got stuff up to the room, organized the bike, had a shower and by then it was almost 4pm.  I went down with the bike and met Nick for the bike/safety inspection and picked up my brevet card and up-to-date cue sheet.  I then went for a walk to the Subway (don't forget, I've started the Shenandoah 1200 five times from here), and then back to the 7-11 to pick up water, milk and beer.  I had dinner, such as it was, in the room and got as much sleep as possible.

It's now 3:15, time to pack up this laptop and get some stuff downstairs, get dressed and be ready for the 4am start.

I'm not likely to blog again until the ride is over but you never know.

Onward !
