Why is the phrase "lucked out" ? That sounds more like "out of luck". I prefer to think "lucked in", which sounds more positive, and that's what has happened with the weather over the past few days. Cold/cool, yes; sunny most of the time, check; rain, no. Today might end that streak and tomorrow doesn't list a %-chance-of-rain, it just lists rain. That sounds pretty definite !
Taking advantage of the weather, David and I poured the landing at the top of Dad's "stairway to heaven". It took more time to setup forms around the existing steps than to do the pour, naturally. The cement mixer did its job nicely. Perhaps David will now continue the family tradition pouring concrete ? Time will tell :).
Other than the concrete, I fussed a bit with the trailer, getting some stuff up there while the weather was good. I screwed a piece of 2x4 onto the floor that should stop storage bins from sliding around. I'll also tie them down to stop them from banging around with the bikes. Yes the tikes are in there as well, nicely tied down - fat tire bike and rando bike.
Stef was still here when I headed to Britt for Mass, but out in the Kayak, so I missed saying good-bye. We'll see her Thursday though as I HAVE to see the final result of the tiles. She grouted them last night and no doubt she'll work at baseboard etc. shortly to finish it off.
I flashed my lights at them on 522 -- them heading west, me heading east. I couldn't see Stef through the glare of the windshield but she said that she waved. Aaron apparently didn't see me but when you cross someone's path on the highway with a net speed of close to 180-200 kph (90-100 kph each), it happens pretty quickly. Just think how quick that is for acrobatic jet maneuvers !
The lake water pump is now winterized, hoses put away in the garage. Sandy spent much of the day raking leaves, not for the leaves, per se, but to cover areas of the garden.
We had leftovers for supper, basically the same meal only better. Sandy and I went "cold turkey" but David likes his warm, so he nuked his. Wait, there was a difference -- we'd finished the beans so Sandy sauteed some zucchini.
David has continued another tradition -- duck hunting. He went out in the morning and at night and has gone out again this morning. He came in long after dark last night, had me a bit worried, but he was back in Pondsfords Bay where Alex and I hunt in the mornings.
That's about it ... Abby's incision is looking better all the time but we still put the cone on when she goes outside. She doesn't complain once it's on but she does turn her head away a little when I want to put it on her -- surprise ?
Three days and we head south ...
Today is generator day. This better go and go well. As it stands we can't get Sandy's car in the garage !
Onward !
