Updating Quicken today, I saw that EZPASS took out $75. My usual replenishment is $25 but since we hit toll roads so much this past quarter, they've upped the ante. We used EZPASS on Grand Island (Buffalo), the PA Turnpike, in MD and the tunnel in Baltimore, a bunch on the NY Thruway to/from PA and to Hemmingford, on and on. It was a busy travel quarter. It will be interesting to see if they drop my "ding" to $25 again because it will be months and months before we use that up.
Stef had the tiles all set for grouting now. I'm anxious to see them completed. On our trip south on Thursday, we HAVE to swing by. This picture doesn't capture the colours and it will look better once it's grouted with a light grout.
Sara posted a picture of Emma and Zoe ... now all they need is Matthew walking to be a trio :).
Canadian Turkey Day aka Thanksgiving -- Sandy worked her butt off yesterday doing turkey and all the trimmings. Turkey, stuffing, green beans, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, turnip (makes everything else taste better), refrigerator rolls, pumpkin pie, apple pie (courtesy Lorraine), ice cream, champagne, red wine, eiswein (more on that later). Stef, Aaron, Kylie, Lauren, David, Jason, Lorraine, Kim, Gavin (albeit a bit late coming from Toronto), me and Sandy ... a good crowd.
The Eiswein (Austria) was great. This is vintage 2004 and to date, has not seemed as good as the Ontario Icewine. However, now that it's well aged, it was smooth as silk where before it had a bit of an edge. Of course I'm down to one bottle left of this vintage, the only Eiswein that I've ever bought from the Opimian Society. I think that it was a case of six.
I've got a bunch of champagne downstairs, well, to be precise, sparkling wine since nothing produced outside if France is technically champagne. This wasn't too bad; I had thought that it might be over-the-hill. It's been in the fridge for more than two years; missed two New Years celebrations. I think that I've got at least another half-dozen bottles in the wine cellar.
David and I did gazebo-wrap duty, so that's done. He went hunting in the a.m. and saw lots of ducks, did some shooting, but didn't get anything. That's probably just as well ... I'd have had to clean it/them !
We face-timed with Kim and Megan once everyone was here. They're doing well in Edmonton. I'm hoping that we'll see them in the Spring. Lauren will miss Megan at Christmas -- who will build a fort ??!! I don't expect Jeffrey and family here; Sara scored tickets for Florida and they'll be there January 16th. Can you believe $50 per person, return ??!!?? They don't have to pay for Matthew yet, so $200 for a trip to Florida. They could spend that much parking !
Or ... I could spend that much renting a van to pick them up (just kidding). I can't drive to Orlando and pick up five people. We'll either take two cars, rent a van for a day or have Jeffrey rent a car. That's a couple of months off so we'll decide later.
Hey, I forgot, I'll have the trailer in Florida, could put someone in the trailer ? Just kidding of course but it could hold luggage if only I could seat 5 guests and me, which I can't.
So ... I see Lauren on the swing outside. She's probably waiting for Sandy to do French Toast.
Gavin did a fire last night and I think that David and Kylie went over. This time of year he can start the fire early, since it's dark early. It's that time of year when sitting at a fire produces a warm face and cold back. It was 1C/34F this a.m.
Today is supposed to stay sunny. With any luck David and I will pour concrete for the landing at the top of Dad's concrete stairs -- the "stairway to heaven" as my grandmother used to call it.
David tried out a headlight restorer kit yesterday, something that I'd always thought about doing with the old X5 but never got around to -- what a great job ! I was always worried about really ruining my headlights, which is expensive.
What else ... that's pretty much it ...
Onward !
