Nov 10 - big rain

There's one thing about Florida, when it decides to rain, it's BIG RAIN.  The good news is that we're a few feet away from the Intracoastal Waterway and there's no amount of rain that will create a flood for us because after all, no amount of rain is actually going to raise the water level of the ocean.

Yesterday we had big rain.  Looking at the Doppler, it looked like we were in the eye of a hurricane.  It was a very-little-wind hurricane, with this dark green splotch sitting over us most of the day, rotating and dumping water.  An hour drive north or an hour south and you were on the fringe; further north or south and you'd have had sun.

How much rain did we get ?  Well, I don't know about "official" results, but let me describe it this way -- we have a fountain in the back yard that's about 4' across.  It has an automatic topper-upper (it's actually a back-of-a-toilet water level maintainer).  The water level is set at about 2" below the top of the fountain.  About half way through the storm the fountain was full.  On that basis we got at least 3" or perhaps 4" of rain.  That's a lot of water.  Inland there would be flooding, but not here.

So obviously I didn't ride.  Today we're heading to Key West.  My next ride will be Thursday.   This is an unscheduled break.

I plotted the route through Miami based on what Paul sent me; that's my goal on Thursday.  See it like it is.   I did some more clean-up in the garage, couldn't resist.  I threw away some crap in a couple of cabinets and did some reorganizing of same.  I cleaned the bike, readying it for the trip to Key West.  I tried, without success, to get it into the car.  I could probably do it as long as it was lying in there diagonally, i.e. not flat.  The other alternative is simply to use the bike rack.

This will be easier when I have the new bike built.  With the S&S couplers, I can simply break the bike in half.  It takes a lot more effort to pack it into the suitcase but the basic break-in-half will only take seconds and I can throw it into the car that way, perhaps even with wheels still attached.

What else ... not much.

My Passport Card arrived.  It looks like a fancy Drivers License.

Onward ?!?  Next stop, Key West.
