Jan 27 - around the house

I did take Abby for a walk and did get out checking on shots for our trip to Ecuador, thinking that I could achieve more by face-to-face.  That actually worked out well.

When Sandy checked with our Doctor a while ago and went to the CDC site, there are many shots / immunizations recommended for Ecuador.  From the basic MMR to Tetanus (three vaccines), to Hepatitis A, B, Yellow Fever etc etc.  The Doctor chased down a service in Orlando that does "travel shots" and there's a price per shot plus a $65 "consultation" fee.  What a scam !

I thought that I'd check with the local hospital who referred me to the Public Health office a few blocks away.  They gave me a number to call as the location that does the shots is in Daytona, Deland etc., not in NSB.  This is just our county.  I called that number, got the prices of the shots (less than 1/2 of the other place) and made an appointment for the two of us for today, at 10:15.

It will add up, since the shots range in price from about $50 to $125, but as I said, they're half the price of the other place ... and much closer.  Some of these shots I've personally never had -- like MMR -- nor have I had mumps, but I did have measles.  Tetanus is something that I've had boosters for whenever I stepped on a nail (now that's a long time ago), and Hep A is good, since you can contract this from grocery store items everywhere and you don't know that it's damaging your liver until you're about to die.

George pointed out that some of this should be free and I agree.  I should probably call my health plan before heading over.

Others we won't bother with -- Hep B (contracted like HIV), Rabies (don't plan to be bitten by rabid dogs or bats), ... don't know if we'll check into Malaria antibiotics, probably should ...

I spent a lot of the day on the computer, redesigning our Randonneurs Ontario membership card.  I also purchased and downloaded Turbotax while I was at it, time to start working on that.  I got over the annoyance that they've taken features out of the version that I usually purchase and have to move up to their "Premier" edition, for 20 bucks more.  It would be cheaper to use their online product, but I don't want to do that either.  I'll go ahead and kid myself that I can have stuff on my computer that no-one else can see :).

Full registrations keep rolling in for the Sunshine 1200k, as that money is due by the end of the week.  It appears that many people are waiting for the last minute to pay up or we'll have many people drop out at that point.  Time will tell.

We're both feeling pretty crummy, didn't have a formal meal for dinner.  I'm hoping that it clears up by end of week or I'll be doing a very slow ride as any head cold meds leave me pretty wiped.  I had to take one last night to sleep.  I take so little of this kind of thing that it lasts a long time, seems to have a long tail.

Onward ?  Yup.
