Jan 7 - on the road again

It wasn't as windy and rather than NE, it was NW.  For some reason that westerly component isn't as favorable riding south as the eastern version.  However, if the wind had been gusting as strongly as it has all night, it would have been almost impossible to ride.  The rattling shutters kept waking me up.

The Intracoastal Waterway must be really rolling but it's too dark to see.  When I look on the internet, it's bitterly cold all through the east right now, 8F in Reading, 7F in Barrie, -4F in Parry Sound, -1F in Sudbury.

It was hair day.  I got mine cut as did Sandy.  I can't say that I'm crazy about mine this time -- too short on the sides, way too short.  Oh well, it will grow.  I've no lack of hair.

Sandy called our family doctor about something, oh yes, getting her file transferred over, and idly asked about Ecuador.  Well, it seems that we should be getting a bunch of shots.  Dr. Keller actually called Sandy back (not the nurse) with questions about how "adventuresome" the trip would be, like hiking in the jungle etc.  We're only there for a week and it's not too likely that we'll be in the jungle "much", but you never know.  They recommend everything from malaria to hepatitis to rabies, it seems.  I queried Jason and they got shot-up last year before their trip to South America.  Oh well, hepatitis shots are good for North America and Europe as well.

Hepatitis A & Typhoid for "most travelers"; Hepatitis B, Malaria, Rabies, Yellow Fever for "some travelers".  In the fine print, however, you have to think about the possibility of these infections, for instance Hep B -- contaminated needles, sex with a new partner -- basically the same as Aids; Rabies -- caving, i.e. bats and for children who are more likely to play with animals and aren't as likely to report an animal bite.

To avoid typhoid, I guess that I'll have to avoid eating "bushmeat" -- monkeys, bats or other wild game !  Right !

I talked to Randy Walsh last night.  They've got a condo for January and February close to our Saxon house (our former Saxon house, that is).  They're going to visit late this afternoon.  Randy & Spouse (forget her name) live on Smiths Bay Road and they have been vacationing in NSB for some years. Randy is also on the Roads Board.

Amazon failed me or perhaps I should blame USPS.  Their two-day delivery didn't happen for the case for Sandy's new phone.  The screen protector, shipped separately, did arrive.

Onward ...
