Mar 26 - both ways

It was one of those days.  Thunderstorms on the horizon, I was hoping to get through my ride before getting wet ... and I did ... sort of.

Heading south into a headwind, it increased in intensity as I rode south.  Completely favorable for a return, it was even from the southwest.

As I turned north, I realized that I was in trouble.  Black, black clouds told me that I was going to hit heavy rain and potentially lightening.  Whatever ... I didn't have much choice at that point !  With the proximity of the storms, the wind changed direction ... rats !  Luckily it was fairly calm, not as blustery as the trip south.  Seeing the rain on the roadway ahead, I donned my jacket and put my wallet in a ziploc.  A few minutes later, still not getting rained upon, I took off the jacket as it was hot and I was getting wet inside from sweat.

The rain hit ... ahead of me ... and I rode on wet roads ... but it never hit me.

Had I left earlier, soon after Frank and Nancy vacated, I'd have had mostly calm heading south and a tail-wind heading north.  I wasn't in the mood to leave right away and paid the price.  That said, had I left a little earlier, I'd have paid a higher price when hit by a deluge, so my timing wasn't all bad.

An hour or so later, Carol and Allister arrived and we chatted until I went to bed and then they chatted without me.  Well, I think it was mostly Carol and Sandy chatting !

We had triggerfish for dinner, again; it was excellent, again.  We have to take advantage of the short triggerfish season.

Our guests intend to leave on Sunday.  I may or may not see them that day as I will have arrived back from my 400k in the dead of night and then be at Mass from 7am to 8am.

Today we're supposed to have rain.  Allister is going to a local Duffy's to get his alignment checked, a re-do from a Duffy's in Panama City Beach.  I'm going to go to Home Depot shortly to pick up a couple of things, most notably water softener salt.  Later today I'll pack for the 400k, leaving in the dead of night / early a.m. Saturday.  This one is running out of Gainesville.

Allister plans on getting in a game of golf tomorrow at a local club.  It should be a good day for that, with the high in the mid 60's.  It will be cooler than usual on the Gainesville ride with similar temps getting down to 40 overnight, so I'd better dress appropriately !

Onward ...
