Apr 14 - shakedown

There's a reason for shakedown rides before I head out for a 600k, and yesterday underscored that !

I must have leaned the bike up against something and a rear fender strut popped out of its plastic retainer.  That's actually a safety feature.  I just had to push that back in.  I'd been playing with the brakes and made final adjustments while on the bike stand, bad plan as I had to re-adjust once I was riding.  That's a bit fiddly as I only have two hands.  After so many days bouncing on road ripples, the headset loosened up a bit and was creaking.  I hadn't tightened it down enough, obviously.  Easily fixed.  The front and rear lights seemed secure enough; I can double check those.  I actually want to swap the M5 bolt holding the front light in place with an M6 and larger washer.  That will be safer.  I didn't have a spare M6/nut and washer on hand when I got the light mounted to the front rack, so I used an M5.

It was a dry, hot day, oven hot.  I hope that it's not this bad in a month when I have 55 riders, but chances are that it will be.

As noted yesterday, my taxes are on the road now.  I also returned two front bags, the third option is due today, hopefully, as I want to do a ride with it tomorrow before using it on Saturday for the 600k.

We had our annual Lost Channel Local Roads Board budget meeting yesterday.  I was on speaker phone, Peggy, Randy, Pat and Dean were at the other end at Pat's place.  It went quite well, done in one hour.

That's about it.  Sandy was in New York having a great time with Marda and Mariadela.  I don't know if they came back last night but I suspect so as Sandy is heading to the airport this morning.  Perhaps not; they do have ample time to drive back as long as nothing goes wrong on the Jersey Turnpike ... ha !

That's about it.  I did my three loads of laundry the prior day (biking clothes, biking gloves, whites).  I now have to run the dishwasher as I'm running out of dishes and cutlery.

Onward !
