It rained all day, so it was a day for inside activities, mostly, except that the notable activities took place outside.
The mosquitoes were fierce, fearless, frenzied and found me by the hundreds whenever I stepped outside. They swarmed in a cloud almost like black flies. Well, it will be interesting to see how the Mega Catch mosquito thingy does when I have that installed. In a way I’m hoping that there are just as many critters around then so that I can see it catch hundreds, maybe thousands. It will be awaiting my return shortly in Reading.
I used the new DR mower, the wheeled string mower. Even though wet out, I was able to mow the area up by the driveway and behind the satellite dishes, over top of the septic bed. The grass was literally waist high and it made short work of it. It’s a mis-nomer to call it a string mower as it uses heavy cord almost 1/8 inch thick. Electric start, it worked right away. There were times that I wished I had opted for self-propelled … but that still wouldn’t have gotten it up the hill.
That was the good news. The generator guy showed up mid morning, he’d had a flat on the way here, and immediately diagnosed a blown engine. Well, good thing that it’s covered by warranty ! He’s now off to chase that down with Generac.
Jim Matthews stopped by mid afternoon, here in mosquito heaven, and we loaded up his new trailer with boat, motor and gear. He’s now ready to do some exploring and fishing by their new house, which they move into next week. Moving isn’t any fun, so I hope that all comes together for them.
Today we’re off to Barrie for the day – Lauren’s recital – and will leave Emma there with Stef; Sandy to pick her up on Monday when she makes a day trip to Toronto to have her hair done.
Onward !
