Aug 7 - if at first you don't succeed

I'm still playing around with the S&S case.  The bike is packed, sans tie-downs and other stuff that I'll get into the bag, if I choose to use the bag.  I could make more space by removing tires and tubes, probably get it to settle flatter ... how far do I want to go ?  I'm sure that it's safe as a stand-alone but I don't know if it's going to have too much lateral pressure if there are too many bags piled on top of it.

I did remove the brakes and then put one set back on.  They were full of sand; apparently much more susceptible to crap accumulation than calipers.  I also replaced the rear derailleur, getting that setup.  No doubt I'll have to do some shift tuning as I ride.  I can get one of the racks in the bag easily; not the other.  I haven't tried to see where the fenders might fit but can't imagine them going in the bag.  Water bottle holders, tools, other small items will fit in the corners.  Sheesh.

I went to the Roads Board meeting.  Other than complaints about the state of Lost Channel Road itself, there wasn't much to talk about.  Two non-LRB topics were discussed -- the Dump Committee has found someone / some people to take over from Terry B, who wants off the board after something like 15 years as temporary chairman; Daryl Rogerson spoke about the workings of the Local Services Board.  That annual meeting is August 20, in Port Loring.  I wish that I could attend.  We pay tax money towards the LSB but all that money is spent in the town.  It needs strong representation from outside of town to ensure that tax money is spent to benefit all taxpayers.

I finished cleaning up where the wood piles had been.  Gavin had removed the burnable stuff earlier.  I also finished up my brake job of a couple of weeks ago, installing the sensor cable on the left front wheel and resetting the countdown.

There's a lot to do Saturday and Sunday -- finish packing the bike, packing clothes etc., putting away mosquito trap and anything else around the yard, going to Mass, whatever else.

Around 6pm we headed next door with a bottle of champagne and glasses (and champagne of ginger ales for Kim) to toast Gavin and Amanda who have gotten engaged.  We've marked our calendars for 2 years hence; July 22nd 2017, if I have that correct.

Abby ?  terribly itchy.  That should be alleviated today with the re-introduction of her usual medicine.  Her appetite seems to be returning.

Onward ... basement-ward to ponder the dang bike.
