Oct 11 - the countdown

As of this morning, we have two more days.  Heck, yesterday, Sunday, we had three !

So what happened on three-from-leaving ?

Well, first thing, of course, Sandy made French Toast for the gang; kids of all ages.  They were all down at the cove when I headed off to Mass in Britt and then back eating again, lunch this time, when I got back.  Turkey sandwiches were the norm, of course.

Chris, Kylie and Lauren were interested in a boat ride, so I launched the Bayliner and we headed to the dams, crawling over both dams and then back home.  I'd expected Stef, Aaron and Kate to have left by then - their plan was 1:30 - but the weather was so great that they hung out for another couple of hours.  Aaron was actually sunning himself on the deck and Stef, when we returned, simply sitting on the Davies' rocks and communing with nature.

That was it for the year for the Bayliner so I set about getting it put away for the winter.  I'm leaving it in the boathouse as that's more conducive to simply launching and going for a boat ride than having it up in the barn.  Getting it into the boathouse wasn't as easy as usual, as the carriage had to be further out due to the low water level.  I ended up getting help from David and Aaron to keep it going straight and then to jack up the end of the carriage slightly so that the door completely closes.

We put the little kayaks on top of the boat; the bigger ones will be put up in the barn.  That reminds me; they were left on the dock right-side up and I also left the garage door open.  I hope that we've not had a raccoon visitation !  They make a mess of garbage in the garage.  That happened a few days ago.

It occurred to me as I was lying in bed this morning that the gazebo tarps are at the front of the boathouse; not easy to retrieve.  Rats.  Oh well, I'll squeeze myself in there.  I really should have brought out the 9.9 as well, since I'm planning on having Mike get that operational again.  It too is at the front of the boathouse.  Think.

Alex arrived around 5:30 and we had a glass of wine; ate dinner - pickerel - a couple of hours later.  Our timing was perfect; David getting back from duck hunting just as we were sitting down.  We ended up having a healthy discussion about guns -- Alex being of the opinion that bad people do bad things; it's not about the guns.  He should be living in the US !

Alex developed   Ménière's Disease this past summer -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9ni%C3%A8re's_disease -- which can be quite debilitating when you're having an attack.  Jack Robinson suffered from this too.  Ugh.  We're aging.  No longer the young pups we once were.  He can't drink much alcohol as that can be a trigger; beer more so than wine (so we had wine !).

Today, David and I will wrap the gazebo.  Kylie, Chris and Lauren will be leaving sometime this afternoon  or this evening.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful; temps getting up to 69F with rain possibly hitting around 7pm.  I can live with that.  Tomorrow we are supposed to get rain, so gazebo and big dock should be dealt with.  I just had a flash that we could perhaps simply tie the big dock up to the little dock along the logs boathouse-side of the gazebo.  That's not quite as protected as in the cove; I'll look at that as a possibility.

When I look at the close-up items, there are still quite a few items on the list.  Time to get cracking !  David is heading out now for ducks; when he gets back we'll tackle the gazebo.  In the meantime, I'll do some minor items.

Onward !
