I heard from Terry Payne via Facebook that it was a cold, windy and wet ride. I'm so glad I didn't go down. It didn't rain here but I guess they got wet.
Did I do anything yesterday ? Oh yes, I hauled the miter saw outside through the door that fits me but not the miter saw and cut some wood. I'd had this fan, well a motor with a propeller, sitting on my shelf in the workroom forever, and finally figured out what to do with it. I built a square housing and used a strip of aluminum as a mount and now have a unique and powerful little fan. It's not finger proof until I put some screen on it, front and back, but it's functional.
I may have rescued the fan from a dehumidifier ? I don't really remember. I think that it came in a box of stuff from Radnor and has been sitting on the shelf ever since I setup the shelves. I had been doing some cleanup, throwing out useless stuff (I've still got a lot of useless stuff for another day, of course) and had moved the fan to my workbench for further pondering and finally decided upon an approach.
This wasn't really a project, it was more hobby-like. It reminded me yet again that I didn't make the correct choice of basement door. Naturally my puttering with the fan took a couple of hours.
A few weeks ago I had been looking through my bedside drawer for my FAC -- firearms acquisition certificate -- and didn't find it. I think that a change in the law means that I can renew this without having to re-test. Thinking about it again, I tried again, sifting through papers, finding old passport photos and this and that and bingo, the FAC. Of course it expired 31 years ago, but what the heck. I now need to call the Ontario Firearms Officer and see what can be done.
The reason that I'm interested in renewing is that I'd like to be able to leave my guns in Canada, either here in a gun safe or with someone else, like David or Alex, so that I can hunt in the Fall without the bother of bringing said guns across the border early Fall and taking them home within the allowed time period. Since we haven't been to Florida in August / September in a few years, I haven't been able to hunt. This year I left two at Jeffrey's in the Spring but didn't get down there in time. I only use them in Canada anyway.
Do they make a fitbit for fingers ? I'd be curious as to how many keystrokes I log in a day.
I researched this and that, USB3 modems, Sound Cards (that's a hoot), and like all things internet-related, went off on many many tangents, sometimes popping the stack and getting back to what I was originally doing but often not.
Although my hardware is EXACTLY the same between the cottage and Florida and I move my boot drive back and forth, I've been stymied getting any sound out of the Florida machine. The speakers work; they had been attached to the prior machine and have been tested otherwise, so it's not that. The motherboard on these machines has built-in video and sound with no connection to the jacks other than solder, so it's not something that I can fix. I've concluded that it's a motherboard issue but I'm not going to replace motherboards, not yet anyway. I thought about putting a sound card in the Florida machine and have a couple of old cards here but looked online for a newer model. Well, what I found was a little USB connector for $2.38; unless you need BIG sound, they are all USB.

What you see here is larger than life. You know the size of a USB connector and a speaker jack, that gives you the reference point. Yes, $2.38. I'll have to find something else to order so that the shipping cost isn't more than the item ! There are others, a couple of $ cheaper that have dongles, which is probably better for strain relief at the back of the pc.
I've been building up my shopping list which varies from this to air filters to bicycle brake pads etc. etc. Once in Florida, UPS and USPS will certainly know that we're back ! Amazon will be so excited ! No doubt their stock price will take a jump ... perhaps I should buy some before starting to place orders or is that insider trading ?
I think that's it for the moment. Today we head to pick up the pink crate for the yet-to-be-named puppy, pickup Lauren, visit puppy, take Lauren home, do grocery shopping, come back here. It's about 8 hours of driving. We'll have some pictures to post.
Speaking of names, I'd been playing with names, searching online. There are so many possibilities ! Jennifer (Jenny or J-Low or J-Law), Natalie, Scarlett, Angelina, Emma, Charlize, Keira, Nicole, Julia, Meryl, Rachel, Cate, Megan, Cameron, Kristen, Audrey, Kate, Halle, Emily, Marilyn, Julianne, Marion, Amber, Zooey, Olivia, Amanda, Blake, Jodie, Ingrid, Catherine, Grace, Rachel, Naomi, Reese, Michelle, Ellen, Jessica, Helen, Gwyneth … ooh, that last one would be a terrible name. Gwinny.
This is all kind-of tongue in cheek. The above names are from a google of popular actresses. You can probably fill in the surname.
Stef suggested a family vote. That would be good but it's like popular opinion in the U.S. vs what Congress can achieve ... both Sandy and I can veto.
Onward ...
