Oct 4 - multiple snafu's

... but it all worked out in the end.

We left here around 8:30 or so, getting to Port McNicoll around 11am.  I couldn't find the street in the Nav, so I used the phone, realized that I was spelling Athabaska with a "c" incorrectly, tried again in the Nav, still didn't find it but the phone got us there.  We picked up the very pink crate, turned around and headed to Stef's.

Getting to Stef's, I was worried when I saw that one of the cars was gone.  Sure enough, Aaron and Lauren were out biking.  Due to a miscommunication between me and Stef, she didn't think that we were going to be there until 2pm.  My fault.  She called Aaron; I busied myself with installing the replacement faucet.

I knew even as I started on the faucet that one of the braided hoses was going to be too short.  C'est la vie.  Home Depot is close enough and either Aaron or I could pickup another to finish the job.

In the meantime, there was more commotion.  Chantalle, the dog's owner, replied to Sandy's text that she wasn't home.  She'd forgotten that we were coming.  Sandy talked to her, explained that we'd already driven 2.5 hours ... yadda yadda yadda ... and the final result was that her husband would hang out long enough for us to get there.  Chantalle was helping her brother move.

I finished up what I could do with the faucet and we headed out to meet Aaron and Lauren along the 400 at 89.  More communication transpired and that was changed to Inisfill.  We pulled off, did a u-turn; Aaron showed up shortly afterwards and Lauren joined Sandy, me and David.  I gave Aaron the short hose and he figured that he had one in the basement that would work.  Postcript -- he ended up deciding that the one that he had was overly long and picked up another anyway.

We set off for Horning's Mills, just outside of Shelburne.  Arlene -- side note -- can't call her Shelby because she's really from Horning's Mills ... Horny instead ?  Never mind.

Of course we were late there too.  Sandy had said 1:30 but it was almost 2pm after we'd crawled through Cookstown and Alliston. On the way back to Stef's we took a different route !

But ... the husband was there (don't know his name).

I had to re-post this one for comparison; doggie at 3 weeks (on the right with pink collar).

now at 5 weeks.

Two pretty girls -- you can see that she's much bigger.  She'll be twice the size again when we pick her up in 16 days.  The puppies are already eating solid food.

A good picture of David and puppy !

So we headed back to Stef's and hit a road closure; bridge out.  The Nav has a "detour" function, hit that and got re-routed -- what a good feature !  That basically took us back to Mapleview then to Big Bay Point towards Stef's.  We stopped at Bulk Barn (me and David) and Shoppers Drug Mart (Sandy and Lauren).  They're in a little strip mall where David's old drycleaning shop was, at Big Bay Point and Yonge, quite close to Stef.

At Stef's, we chatted for a few minutes, picked up their camcorder, dropped off David and Lauren and headed to Costco.  I'm copying Jason's 8mm tapes and as it turns out, my Dad's camcorder doesn't work anymore.  I guess that it's just been sitting around too long.  Hopefully this one will work !

We set out for Costco aka the zoo.  It was HUGELY busy.  My list was still sitting on the counter at the cottage but I think that I remembered everything; haven't checked.  Anyway, we got out of there as quickly as we could, which wasn't quick.

Heading north, we were going to be early but wanted to try The Inn at Christie's Mill for dinner.  Sandy called and found that they started serving dinner at 5pm and the Nav said we'd be there at 5:05.  Ok, that would work.  Normally we wouldn't eat that early but I was hungry.  I'd given half of my lunch to Lauren, my pack of peanuts.  I knew that she'd be hungry and I'd be ok.

Well, the food was excellent and pricey.  We expected both.  It was very pricey in fact.  This would class as fine dining.  I had the rack of lamb; Sandy had the Chilean Sea Bass.  The highlight of her dinner was probably the cold beet soup, however.  I had a salad to start and, typical of pricey fine dining, it was the equivalent of perhaps two Romaine leaves or less (it wasn't Romaine, but that's to illustrate the quantity).  Since my normal salad is an entire head of Romaine, that wasn't quite filling ... but the lamb rack was good and hit the spot.  The veggies were crunchy, an assortment of asparagus, carrot, white turnip, beans ... I'm missing something but you get the idea.

We were the only ones dining in a large restaurant when we started and when we left around 6pm.  From there, north again, we stopped at exit 214 to top up the diesel and were home at 8:10 pm.

Another day was done.  A good day; all mis-steps had been remedied at the end.

Wait .. not quite done ... glass of wine and a snack !  I'd had coffee at dinner, three cups in fact.

Onward !
