I did the 300k yesterday, a cold one. It started out around 35F and did warm up into the 50's, perhaps, but the warmest part of the day was along the ocean and it was chilly. I drank gallons of crummy, terrible coffee to keep warm. I was adequately dressed but wasn't generating enough heat.
The day before I'd checked out Highbridge and, as expected, it was closed. Luckily that wasn't a surprise on the ride and I had an alternate in mind. I also, on the way to check out the bridge, tried visiting the Social Security Office to provide some paperwork (Naturalization Form) rather than mailing, but the room was full of people and I didn't want to wait. The guard, yes guard, has a very narrowly defined role and suggested that I come back at 3:30. I have no idea why he might think that 3:30 might be better but I didn't want to go that day. Perhaps today I'll check the place out in late afternoon.
There is undoubtedly more to report but yesterday's 300k has obliterated any memories of what transpired the day before.
I started riding at 6am and finished at 10:48 p.m. That's longer than I expect but I had a moderate headwind a lot of the day and stopped many many times for coffee and, early in the a.m., simply to hold my hands in my armpits to get warm. I had full fingered gloves but should have brought the winter versions.
Today I'm supposed to go fishing with Randy in about a half-hour but when I checked out the boat a while ago, it was almost dry underneath - a very low tide. I have no way of letting him know to delay for a bit. Hopefully the tide is coming in now !
Onward !
