Jan 8 - on the road, in the rain

A new year; a first ride; rain.  Oh well.  That's my sport !   Yes, I got rained on for about 2 hours.  Are we having fun yet ?  It's what I do.

The wind was from the south, which is actually unusual at this time of year, and relatively warm.  I rode into the rain about halfway to Titusville and rode back out of it on the way north again.  In actual fact the wind wasn't much of a factor.  Naturally my legs weren't excited about the new year, but they'll get used to it.

They'd better get used to it.  At the moment, I'm planning a 300k on Tuesday to do the pre-ride for Paul. That could be tough but will make the next ride, a 200k, so much easier !

I also took Cassie out for two walks yesterday.  She's getting used to this stuff, hopefully, as it will be her main source of exercise in Florida; no running around on her own like at the cottage; no kids sledding in the snow to chase !

Sandy had a few errands, got her toes done, was in and out.  On one of those errands she picked up tuna, which was ok but not great.  It was kind of tasteless.

Today I've got to register for the Cascade 1200k in June.  Registration opens at 9am and I expect it to be oversold so I've got to have my fingers poised over the keyboard, so to speak.

Vinny and John continue to make slow progress on the 1200k permanent.  When I got up, I saw that they'd stopped short of the standard overnight at Lake Wales and was hoping to see them start moving again in time for the 5:31 cutoff at that Control.  Sure enough, they started rolling a little after 4am and blew through LW just ahead of the deadline.  Whew.  I don't want to see Vinny DNF this ride again !  Today's leg, the last one, is shorter so they should be ok.  They aren't leaving themselves much room for error though.

Today, if we can, we'll get out in the boat with Cassie.  It's supposed to be warm enough but the water will still be cool.  We've got a dip coming -- Monday's high is forecast at 57F and then settles in at the mid 60's as the week goes on.

Sandy talked to Doris Guymon yesterday, who is making plans for time in Florida.  Apparently she's planning on flying down with Nico and Wayne will then pick them up to go home. I'm thinking that Nico won't be excited about traveling in steerage.  Maybe he'll get preferential treatment given his "service dog" classification, but he won't be in the main cabin.

That's about it ... onward !
