We did hang around San Vittore Olona for the day, vs hitting the road. Saying our good-byes to Hamid and Shab, Viktor from Columbia this a.m. at breakfast (just now), Ed Boltz, wife and son -- it's odd for me to still be here.
One of the reasons to hang out was the thought that I'd find a doctor or dentist to look at my mouth. Just before the ride -- literally just before, like an hour -- I'd bitten my tongue and produced a huge blood blister that had then broken, leaving a large patch of exposed skin. It hurts when anything without a neutral ph touches it. We're in Italy -- think coffee, tomatoes, wine, most fruit -- it's impossible to have anything with neutral ph other than pasta with olive oil, and I did have a bunch of that.
Anyway, I'd done his before, about a month ago, and it healed in a week or so. This time, eating 24 hours a day, it hasn't had a chance to heal. Taking a close look at it in the makeup mirror, there doesn't seem to be anything else going on so I'll give it a few more days before taking the step of finding an English speaking medical professional. Hopefully that won't be necessary. It's really cutting into my enjoyment of eating and drinking though ... and I can't eat anything that takes a lot of chewing -- like salad that I didn't finish yesterday.
This morning we head out. We've got a B&B booked about 5 hours south of here. I plan to have SPOT active, for anyone interested in following. Sandy wants to get down to Pompeii/Sorrento/Amalfi so this is just a stop along the way. We might find something in that area for a few nights and do day trips.
