Sep 28 - this is like work !

Heavens !  Everything all at once !

Paul Rozelle and I are both running for the RUSA board -- Paul as RBA liason and me as, we, board member for one of the two open positions.  There are six "regular" members and they have three year terms; two rotate off every year.  The RBA liason is the seventh position and it comes up for election every year.  Why is that ?  I don't know.

So -- I drafted my candidate statement; Paul drafted his.  Dan Driscoll is commenting on both.

In many ways Paul's is easier because only RBA's vote for that position and there are 50 (give or take) RBA's.  That will be won or lost via telephone calls / personal contact, not the candidate statement.

Mine, on the other hand, will be a combination of personal contact and reaction to the candidate statement.  There are roughly 3,000 RUSA members and it takes about 300 votes to win a seat.  Votes get split among the eight running for the two seats.  Any member gets to vote for two people.  That creates some interesting dynamics -- best is if you can convince people to vote only for you so that their other vote doesn't propel someone else into first or second position.  Third through eight are all the same ... losers :).

I know many people but it takes those people convincing their friends to get in.  I'll likely have good support out of Florida, Texas through Dan, DC, perhaps, with Hamid's help (he's also running).  I'll have to do a lot of campaigning, which isn't my strong suit.  I don't like beauty / popularity contests.

So, at the same time last night, I'm hot and heavy with texts from Matthew Lee at Trackleaders; issues with Osprey Road - emails from Art and calls with Pat and MTO; drafts and comments on drafts -- mine and Paul's ... I haven't juggled balls like this for a long time !  I'm out of practice !

Earlier in the day I had a call with Dan and well as back-and-forth emails and then I went for a ride.  The wind was from the NE so I rode to Golden Valley and back.  It's only 54 miles total but that keeps my legs turning.  The 1200k is going to be tough, but at least it will be warm and the roads are better.

Today we head to Stratford and Cassie goes just a little bit further to Mitchell for her sleepover.  A Chorus Line here we come !

Onward !
