Nov 12/13 - the weekend

Normally "the weekend" isn't as significant when you're a retiree.  There's a different crowd at the gym; Sunday Mass is more than a dozen people; traffic patterns are different; Home Depot opens later; the Tiki is open; Brunch is served at the SYC on Sunday -- yes, there are differences, but you might miss some of them.

Not so when you've got work going on at your house !  The worker bees are gone and you're catching up on the projects that are yours -- like moving sprinkler heads. I spent a good chunk of Saturday finishing up what I'd started on Friday, doing just that.  The prior setup had them right up against the concrete -- bad because any errant car wheel straying over the edge would break a sprinkler head.  Even badder -- with the new pavers going down, outside the pavers is a concrete curb, so to speak, to stop the pavers from spreading.  It's for that reason that I was moving heads.

I'm not finished.  There's one where I'm not sure where the concrete will be going and will wait and see.  That one actually overlaps significantly with another and I might just cap it off.  Another needs to move back, but there's a pallet of pavers in the way.  Yet another is right under a pallet.  Another has about four feet of line where the concrete might be going, so I'll wait and see.  These are all exposed, so it's easy to finish the job (other than the one under the pallet).

Then there's the conduit -- for the post light and the dog fence.  I can't do anything with that until they've got the driveway closer to finished.

Jason, Lorraine and Kim came over on Sunday and we went for Brunch at the SYC.  After hanging out in the backyard for a bit, we went to Flagler Ave and discovered that they had an art show going on.  We wandered through that for a couple of hours, browsing but not buying; some things were tempting but we held back.  Back at the house, it was time for dinner.  I grilled the veggies; Sandy sauteed shrimp and little taters.

Before going to Flagler Ave, Jason pointed out a paver that was upside down - you could see the saw marks.  So ... we hunted around and flipped a couple of dozen pavers.  We pulled and replaced a couple of plain white ones that didn't fit well into the "look", and replaced a couple of broken ones.  I'd noted the broken ones before and was intending to replace them but didn't care so much about the saw marks, figuring that they'd wear down pretty soon -- but this was the better route.

There are also uneven spots which are all part of their finishing.  Eric should be here today and I'll discuss with him.  I'll also discuss the cap vs travertine around the garden.

The next few days will be very busy as they finish things off.  I've got electrical and plumbing work to do; must keep up.

Hopefully the driveway will look a little more civilized after today !

In other news, I'd been trying to get hold of Al Nichols to ensure that our driveway is plowed this winter.  I wasn't hearing back from Bonnie, so I checked with Art.  He eventually got back to me saying that Jim had prostate surgery (I'd forgotten that was scheduled) and was in the hospital due to blood clots.  Ugh.  I eventually tracked down Al's number through Jakes restaurant referring me to someone else who had the number written on their garage wall; yes, this is small town.  I relayed the number to Art and Sandra Crowe (new cottage at the end of Osprey Road).

I heard back from Art a little later; he hadn't seen my email with the number;  his number agreed with mine;  I spoke to Al's wife; we're all set.

Jim is still in Parry Sound hospital, apparently.  I heard back from Bonnie.  I hope that he'll be ok !  I'll catch up with them once they are able to talk.

This week -- yard work - obviously; gym - as usual; Jessica - as usual; Dermatologist - Tuesday; Chiro - Tuesday (but I might change that); and no doubt more stuff that I'm not remembering and will have to check my schedule.

Onward !
