What a mess ! Sand, sand everywhere !
The deck and existing pavers are now gone, or rather, they're gone from the backyard. In the front yard they occupy a humongous dumpster, which is now full. I hadn't realized that there would be so much garbage, and we're not finished -- the driveway still has to be torn out !
They arrived early, before 8am and started piling skids of pavers on our lawn. They set to work in the backyard, tearing up the deck -- with my help. I used my circular saw to cut sections which was faster than them using a pickaxe and sledgehammer.
Meanwhile, the tree guy started at the cedar. He used a hydraulic platform to get up there with his saw, worked it down to the ground and then used a stump grinder -- first time I've ever seen one -- and reduced the base to a pile of sweet smelling cedar chips. Too bad we don't have guinea pigs anymore !
I had lots to do. Once the upper deck was removed, I set about running conduit for electrical and water and drain pipes from where they are close to the house outside of the dining room, to behind the kitchen. There was an electrical run before -- loose wire under the deck -- and water supplies before -- braided hose under the deck. There won't be any "under the deck" anymore, other than packed gravel, and I don't like loose runs.
I basically worked from 8am to 2pm without lunch then rushed through a shower and out of the house to Disney to meet up with Jason et al. On the way, inside the Disney grounds, we found the Lost and Found, which has its own parking lot (surprise, surprise) and found, to my delight, my sunglasses. That's a few hundred $ saved ! Sandy scored big on that one.
Tiffin, the new restaurant in Animal Kingdom, was great. It was extravagant in terms of price and calories, big time calories. Tureen of head cheese and pate for starter, lamb for main and a cheese plate for "desert". Yes, lots of calories -- but not many carbs ! :).
