I took advantage of a day that was on and off drizzle to get a few things done ... well, attempt to get a few things done.
I mostly completed some wiring in the garden, providing a receptacle for Sandy's plastic fountain / water feature.  That minor project isn't quite completed as I have to add a stake to which the box will be attached; right now it's simply standing up on the plastic conduit.  This is really something that I should have done a year ago as I ran conduit through / under the garden because it took more work to cut into the existing, add a couple of boxes etc.
More wiring ... when they did the work last year cutting concrete, they also cut the wire that ran to the dock.  Naturally that runs to the breaker marked "dock" in the panel.  That cut wire is down under the concrete and I mostly didn't worry about it.  I ran new conduit from a different circuit, the one that "feeds" the outdoor kitchen, under the garden and over to the dock.
After a time, I've discovered that the same old dock circuit runs a receptacle at the back of the house by the walkway to the front as well as another by the hose close to the front and the light at the lemon tree in the front.  I replaced part of that wiring when the walkway was being laid and ran new conduit down to the lemon tree.  Time passes ... I find that the old dock circuit flips quite regularly so that under-the-concrete cut is shorting.  I suspect that with moisture seepage into that ton of sand it's now a better conductor.  At the time, I should have dug under the concrete and somehow capped that wire but it was flush, going to be buried and I thought that it wouldn't give me any trouble.
So ... I'm endeavoring to find out how I can eliminate the feed to that wire and still leave the other boxes live.  There's another junction box by the back receptacle that's live with wires coming down and up.  I closed off that one, hoping that one of those wires went to the old dock wire.  The other boxes are still live (and nothing else turned off) so I hoped that would solve my problem.  As part of that, I replaced a corroded metal box.  Plastic works best in that outside environment with sealed covers.
Nope, it shorted later on.  Rats.  I've still got work to do !  Perhaps there's a box in the attic ...
... and ... I changed the oil on the Harley.  It was long overdue.  It takes about 3.5 quarts and an oil filter.
... and ... I did a little tidy-up in the garage.  It's a mess, a jumble of stuff (and still is !).
That's it.  Onward !
