Dec 29 - lots of action

Wolves ... would you believe wolves ...

A few days ago, in the dark, I had been out at the barbecue and heard a pack of wolves in the distance.  Yesterday, in broad daylight, that wolf pack ran down the center of the lake.  At first I thought that there was a dog running down and then the others followed, one by one, probably six in all.  That's definitely a first !  I've seen a wolf here before and a coyote, but never a pack

The gang made good use of the outdoors yesterday on our "warm" day above zero Fahrenheit :).  Sandy roasted coffee; the hockey sticks and skates got some use; the 4-wheeler was running on the lake.  Matt Carter stopped by.  He's up with his son but heading back today.  David and Vanda replenished the outside woodbox.  We were going to run out before long.  I set out the fishing rigs and shortly before dark, both flags tripped.  My first thought was "oh great, a fish has bitten on one and then tangled up in the other".  That has happened before.  No, that wasn't the case; I was robbed on both.  Too late to leave them out any longer, in they came.  I've been covering up the holes with a piece of cardboard with a slot cut in it and piled snow on top.  That stops them from freezing up over the course of a day.

It's beautiful and sunny right now.  Stef is about to try out her snowshoes.  The little ones are keeping themselves amused.  Stef & Aaron and Vanda & David all head out at some point today so we'll have Jeffrey & Sara and kids + Lauren.

That's about it, on the eve of new years eve.

Onward !
