Drip, drip, drip. Ugh. One of the kitchen faucets was dripping from the handle. Thinking that I would deal with it later and what harm could it do, we left it. I put a sponge under it so that it would be soaked up and run into the sink. Bad move.
We had a great time at the yacht club. The kids decorated cookies, had the Easter Egg Hunt, etc. Back home, I decided to tackle the faucet. Luckily the one on the island is the exact same faucet, because I could get at that one easily and figure out how to remove the handle. Getting at the Allen screw inside the handle without a straight shot was a matter of fishing around, doing maybe 1/6 of a turn, trying again. It was really frustrating but eventually I got it.
I then discovered that the retaining piece in the cartridge was simply loose. It was an easy fix. I opened up the cupboard below and discovered water, lots of water. Apparently the drip drip drip was simply a tell-tale; most of the water was running down inside the barrel of the faucet into the cabinet below. Ugh Ugh. I have no idea how much water might have dripped down under the cabinet. Luckily it's a very tight fit and perhaps surface tension kept the water up top. If it hadn't, there wouldn't have been water 1/2 inch deep at the back of the cabinet. Hope, hope, hope. I did remove the front plate on the dishwasher overnight so that it could air out. Also luckily, all of Vic's cabinetry is marine grade plywood at the floor, so moisture won't harm the cabinets themselves.
Now that the cows have already left the barn, I've caulked around the inside of the cabinet base so any water inside cannot flow down under.
