Jul 31 - where there's smoke ...

There's this fire burning east of us, about 35+ kms east of us to be exact.  It's pretty large, close to Georgian Bay, with Highway 69 being between it an us.  That's a nice fire break, but doesn't stop smoke.

A couple of days ago, before we arrived, smoke was heavy here.  It's all about wind direction.  When we arrived, nothing.  Yesterday morning working outside, nothing.  Then, when I went to head to Parry Sound, I could smell smoke.  It wasn't strong enough to be irritating, but you don't really want to be breathing smoke for a long time, even if it's organic :).  Apparently it didn't last long and when I got back early afternoon, there was nothing. When it did smell, it was like someone's campfire smoke, not unpleasant but smoke nonetheless.

We'll watch and wait but at this point the weather forecast calls for SW winds for the next 10 days so unless the fire moves significantly south of where it is now, we won't have a smoke problem.  That's good.  It might put a crimp in my riding 522 ... when I get around to that.

I had a long list for Parry Sound.  A haircut was high on the list, as it hadn't been cut since early May.  She must have cut 2 inches off.  I had wine to pickup, veggies at the market, food at Sobey's and last but not least, new trailer tire assemblies for the 4x6 trailer and oil for the X5, overdue for an oil change.

Those dang trailer tire/wheel assemblies were expensive.  It would have been a little cheaper to simply buy tires and go to the Arnstein Garage for installation, but that's hassle.  The cheapest would have been to purchase them in Plattsburgh, but they weren't in stock and delivery to the WalMart there seemed iffy.

Sandy and I both got a lot of laundry done.  The girls did a lot of swimming. We visited with Gavin and Amanda and Kim.  Jason & Lorraine were due last night, back from an overnight visiting friends at Honey Harbour.

Life's good.

Onward !
