Well, we're still alive and kicking. We made it to Florida and opened up. Other than masses of weeds that Sandy immediately dealt with, all looked ok. I did find later that the drain on the A/C in my closet was plugged and I had a wet carpet in there. I fixed that and it's now dry. Cassie got a short boat trip / run on the island; I was pleased that the boat started right up. As of this a.m., Nov 11, I still haven't removed the shutters from upstairs but I'll take care of that today.
Home in the a.m.; assemble bike from Israel the next day and pack; drive to Pensacola on the 3rd; check in for ride; ride to Key West starting 4am on the 4th and finishing at 1:25pm on the 8th. Technically the ride time limit was 5pm on the 9th so there was plenty of time. We spent the 9th in Key West, met up with Vinny for lunch, Greg and Sean for dinner (my riding buddies) and drove back home on the 10th.
We now stay mostly put for a month. Whew. We'll do day trips to Disney (one tomorrow to meet up with Jason et al) and of course I'll get out for some short rides. I'll need to do a 200k in December to keep my streak alive but nothing more strenuous. Whew again.
I'll do my ride blog shortly but not today.
When I got home yesterday, I did some mangrove trimming. The bananas look like we're living in a jungle. Apparently Sandy saw bananas somewhere but I haven't found them yet. I won't touch them much until sometime in January once we know that we're not going to get a killing frost.
We do need to find a new lawn guy and someone who will keep weeds in check when we're away.
Cassie is anxious for exercise. She doesn't get as much here.
We heard from Sheryl that they'll take over the place on Dec 15; sounds like they'll leave for Florida the same day that we leave for the Great White North.
That's about it. That's enough.
Oh yes, I do now hold the world wide record for the most 1200k's in one year, or perhaps that's the stupidity record, not sure which. That turned out to be my mission this year and mission accomplished. Congrats and move on. Will someone (namely Mark Thomas) notch one more next year ? Don't know. PBP year is difficult to do that. My accumulated total is 38; I'm now in the upper reaches for that as well but Mark is at 54 or 55; I'll never catch that as he's about 10 years younger than me.
Onward indeed.
