Oct 3 - tarping

I picked up some new tarps for wrapping the gazebo for the winter.  The two old ones were approximately 10x28.  I've now got 4 new ones, each 10x14.  At least I thought that they were 10x14; turns out that they're actually 9.5x13.5.  The gazebo front and back are 13' 11".  The sides are closer to 13' 6".  The front is about 10' high, from the bottom to the top of the top beam.  That works out well as I've hung it (yes, did some work on this yesterday) just a bit down from the top of the beam.  I'm going to go into town today and pick up some screw-eyes.

The sides and back are shorter than the front.  I have to decide how to hang those - across the top and fold the bottom or perhaps fold the top and square at the bottom.  The latter approach would facilitate lacing the tarps together at the sides as the grommets would line up (approximately, as these aren't exact).  I bought some clips that would double as the top grommets in the case that I fold it there.

I'm going through all this because I delayed, delayed, delayed calling Western Tarp to order a custom tarp.  Turnaround time, as I found out, is 3 weeks and I don't have that much time.  They make a vast array of products, mostly custom, for trucks, outside structures, etc. etc.  in all weights and types of material, from tarp-like to vinyl.  I had a long and interesting conversation with the sales representative about the technology, competition from China etc.  It was Sandy's brother Wayne who put me onto Western Tarp as he was a trucker.

I could have rehung the old tarps but they were in very rough shape.

That's about it for yesterday.  I only hung the front, for now, and even that's temporary.  It's not rocket science but I want this to work.  It was cold and windy with drizzle anyway, not a great day to do the work.  Before I wrap the back, with the door, Sandy will load the gazebo with furniture.

Onward !
