Sep 22 - wired

Another one of those little projects long in mind but not started ... wiring a receptacle at the end of the deck for the Christmas lights (railing and gazebo) and at the back door.  I've always run a cord from the shed to the back door for the winter to plug in the heat line for the sump pump drain and I'm always looking for a place to plug in the miter and/or table saw.  I can use the gazebo receptacle but it's at the end of a long 14/2 run and it's noticeable with those saws.  I usually end up running a 12 gauge extension into through the back door.  Oh yes, and all this is (going to be) 12 gauge.

It's a challenge doing any of this wiring.  Out the back door would mean going through concrete.  The top of the rim board is well above the deck.  So ... I went out at the side of the house by the generator and ran conduit to the receptacle at the side of the deck and then to the front, along the front, back to the house and down to the back door.  I only had enough 12/2 wire for the deck receptacle so the rest of the conduit is in place but not glued until I pick up some more wire and thread that through.  Exciting stuff, yeah.

I had picked up some of the necessary conduit and fittings at Home Depot in Sudbury.  HD in Parry Sound was pretty picked over; no 1/2" conduit and a mix of fittings.  Home Hardware in Port Loring had everything that I need.  Go figure.  So a piece of conduit at HD costs about 4.50; at HH 5.25.  Let's see ... 75 cents x 5 pieces ... heck, I could have saved 3.75 by running into Sudbury, 3 hours driving give or take, much gas ... hmm, forget that saving.  Besides, the people are nice in PL; not that they aren't nice in Sudbury but in PL they know me.

Speaking of HH in PL; today they will deliver the steel roofing for the shed.  Whoop whoop - an upgrade !  I'm considering re-siding the back which you can't see from the house but is missing a couple of pieces.  I could re-do the entire back with some of the stuff piled in the barn.

Onward ...
