Canuck Thanksgiving is over. Traffic was light on the highways, a Covid-19 result. Way, way back when, I remember being on the highway heading south on the holiday Monday and traversing 2 miles in 2 hours. Time and distance aren't exact but you get the idea. Yesterday no one had any significant delays.
We had a Covid scare ourselves. Jesse didn't come because he wasn't feeling well and then yesterday he went to the hospital with pneumonia-like symptoms. He and Kylie had both been Covid tested and it would have been unusual to be a) sick and b) test negative if you were actually ill with Covid. It was worrisome nonetheless. However, we heard back from Kylie later in the day that he has a "blood infection" which is also worrisome but not infectious. We're wondering whether he's picked up Lyme or something similar working in Muskoka. Perhaps we'll hear more today; he was still in the ER when we heard the latest news.
So the day was cut short and everyone was in a so-so mood as a results. Kylie, Lauren and Carter were off around 11am; David & Stef perhaps around noon; I wasn't keeping close track.
I did some more puttering and then decided to hang the gazebo tarps, so it's now wrapped up in its winter garb. Today, maybe, I'll hang the lights. Part of that puttering was putting away the chairs from the deck, which go into the gazebo. The table with the broken glass top is now in the shed. The future for that table is unclear ...
We did have a great Thanksgiving dinner, in spite of Covid - which is why we were worrying about being a superspreader event ! Sandy & I, Stef & Aaron, Lauren & Carter, David & Vanda, Kylie & Kim, Annemarie & Ron - 12 in all. Sandy did the usual spread but forgot to mix up the coleslaw so she and I had some for dinner last night. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, turnip, rolls ... and not a heck-of-a-lot leftover (other than the coleslaw !).
Onward ... slightly indefinite travel plans but, give or take, leave here on Sunday. We need trips to Parry Sound and Sudbury before then; last minute refrigerator/freezer stocking. If the weather cooperates, I'll get out for a few km on the bike today and that'll be it for this year, from this place.
I still have some things to move to the basement - water pump, weed eaters - change bottom end oil in Whaler (have to pick up some in town), the aforementioned gazebo lights, tie up docks, put away kayaks, move Muskoka chairs to garage - not much really, could be accomplished in a couple of hours if need be.
Southward soon; change of scenery for a month or so.
