Sep 30 - laying it on

The boathouse is so flat that I was able to simply lay the pieces of roofing on top.  At 21' long, the order was 8 pieces at 11' so there's an overlap.  When I go to screw it down, I'll put some caulking along that overlap.

I blew the roof off first and in the process removed a good bit of the last layer of roll shingle.  In a couple of spots there's wet plywood underneath, underscoring the need to get this done before I have to completely re-roof.  It's wet inside as well - plywood and 2x6's.

I haven't decided yet what to do along the edges - sides and back.  Do I want to simply let the old shingle layers be the drip edge or get fancier ? I had originally expected that there would be a black cover sheet but it was green.  I could do some cutting and painting but realized that I'd end up with a pretty sharp edge which is ok up high but not at waist/chest level.   I'll check with the people in town to see if there's some other metal edging available.  I'm thinking 12" with a fold at the midpoint.  I've got a piece of that up by the woodshed that's brown.  I have no idea what that's from.

It was a mostly rainy day.  I went up to the garden at one point and was picking beans in the sun with blue sky and the next thing I knew, it was raining heavily, overcast and I was waiting it out in the garage.

Cassie's friends next door are gone.  It's quiet.  Kim/Graham/Chili will be back tomorrow/Friday.

I think that we're going to Sudbury today for groceries and other sundries.

Onward.
