Remain on the property ... the property broadly defined includes the Davies at least as far as taking a walk around. Cassie and I then pop up on their Blink.
Over these two weeks we'll gradually work through our fresh veggies and then most of the frozen ones. Long lasting items such as spaghetti squash will be consumed towards the end of our quarantine.
Friday - leftover pizza from the trip (if you're ever in Buffalo, we ordered from a place called Emergency Pizza and it was excellent). Huge portions on the salads. Saturday - salmon. Sunday - shrimp. Monday - pork chops.
We don't really have any canned veggies but in a pinch we could use up mac-n-cheese, kids canned spaghetti etc. I hope that we don't have to go that route ! We probably have enough protein in the freezer for almost a month - salmon, pickerel, shrimp, chicken, steak, sausages before getting into prepared food like frozen lasagna but there's not much of the latter. We started the quarantine with almost enough frozen seafood for two weeks. I have to watch the amount of frozen veggies that I eat as I could easily go through all that we have without leaving any for Sandy.
Exercise - Every couple of hours I take Cassie out for some stick throwing. That works better than a ball in the snow. It's pretty easy to tire her out but it doesn't do much for me. Sandy hit the elliptical yesterday for the first time in a long, long time. I'm guessing that would be more than a year although she might have used it last Christmas. Once we returned from Thailand the NSB gym was shutting down due to covid and she never used the machine this summer. In Florida and during the summer walking the road is better. I have not gotten much exercise other than working around the property, hauling firewood into the house etc. Today I MUST get onto the cycle trainer ... my Performance Bike steel job that occupies the trainer. I MUST start with some weight training, not heavy stuff but something ... anything !
I did a bunch of RUSA and Randonneurs Ontario accounting yesterday and reviewed a bunch of route submissions. I've got more accounting to do today. I actually watched a movie before dinner. I had turned on the TV to channel surf and then ignore it but stumbled on a movie that had just started and I actually didn't fall asleep. I have a ton of stuff that I can catch up on that's on my Plex server but don't have much patience for TV.
We are receiving daily nudges from Canada to check-in. There were also a couple of heavy-handed ones (we each get the emails even though we share the email address) reminding us of the up-to-a-million-$ and jail time punishments for breaking quarantine. Later in the day we received emails from the chief health officer that were more how-are-you-doing emails. Good cop / bad cop, right ? They want to enforce the law but also want to help you in case you're symptomatic.
Oh, and early yesterday, pre-dawn, I watched the Sunday Mass recorded the day before at 11am. Watching a video during the day isn't very fruitful with this satellite internet service. It pauses too much no matter the settings. I sure hope that Musk comes through with his satellite offering ...
I had exchanged emails with George noodling about a better way to keep the internet up if the power goes out and we don't have the generator on. I was wondering whether a high quality / efficient inverter on a car battery running 24/7/365 that's constantly being charged would be better than running the big honking UPS. I'd guessed that modem, router, switch, security system - the critical items - might draw 250 watts. Once here, I unplugged and inserted my killawatt measurement device and found that I'd overestimated by a lot - 38 watts. With a couple of car batteries those essential items would run for a long time.
I could even remove the UPS altogether ... I should check the draw from the computer, TV etc and see what each one adds to the picture. If I really wanted to get creative, I could separate those items that run on DC and eliminate a bunch of converters. There's a lot of 5.5v and 12v stuff that could run directly from the car battery. Eliminating the converter/transformers reduces heat dispersion. 12v => 5.5 is pretty easy to achieve with car stuff. I should take inventory ... interesting project !
That's about it / it is what it is.
Onward !
