May 24 - unbelievable

The mosquitoes, that is.  I woke up this morning with a couple buzzing around me and couldn't sleep as a result - that was at 2am.  I got up, went to the couch in the basement, killed a half-dozen there and gave up, turned the lights on in the kitchen and got swarmed by 4-6 at a time for the next few hours, killing 60-80 mosquitoes in the process.   I went all over the house checking windows and they're all closed.  Besides, they all have tight screens.

Cassie went out, came back in a little while later and I rubbed her down with a towel, disturbing 4 mosquitoes in the process, more in the house.  She's in and out all day long and she brings them in and of course they also come in through the door when it's open, however briefly.  Last night at the barbecue, I was running in and out, no doubt bringing in another dozen.

I'm half tempted to burn a pic coil or two down by the furnace intake, go to Parry Sound with Sandy for the afternoon and hope that the coils do their job and clear out the house.  This is bizarre.

These battery operated bug killer paddles are wonderful !

So that was this morning but this blog is supposed to be about yesterday ...

I'd planned on going for a ride but it rained until I was out of time for a good ride.  I did some bike maintenance, changing the chain which was way more worn than I'd expected -- that dang Florida fine sand.  Perhaps that's making the clicking sound ?  It was still clicking after tightening the cassette so that wasn't it.  I'll see if I can get out on the road just to check it out.  If that doesn't do it, I'll change the cassette, the chain rings (I've bought replacements already), pedals ... the bottom bracket is smooth as silk, so I don't think that's it, but that would be the next step.

I did do the better part of 1/2 hour on the trainer, as much as I hate it, mounting the yellow bike for that purpose.

I organized the wine cellar, getting all the new wines on the shelves.  I also loaded up the car with about 5 cases of empty bottles -- embarrassing ! -- to take to the LCBO for recycling.  Some of those bottles were pour-outs, cooked wines.  I've only got 6 or 7 of that old stock left.  Sandy is still working through hers, more reluctant to pour even though she's tried a bottle or two of a case and knows that they're bad.  The reds fared better -- still drinkable but not as good as they might have been.

I've been doing various computer projects, backing things up eventually leading to a Linux OS upgrade.  I'm overdue.

Onward !
