Jun 2 - transplant

One of the things that I've been wanting to do for years is break up some of the Hosta and plant some right behind the kitchen.  There are a couple of small pieces there already but we could cover that hillside with Hosta.  So ... I did.  They looked pretty pathetic through most of the day even though I watered them a couple of times but this morning they're looking more perky.  We'll see.

I finished up my bike maintenance for this go-around and will take it out today as it's supposed to be nice.

I also did some housecleaning, throwing away a bunch of magazines from the pantry closet in the basement that hadn't been touched since we moved in, and some electronics from my den closet -- wires/cables and odds and ends.  I've got boxes of stuff there (well, not really boxes, rather small plastic totes) full of various categories of cords and cables, circuit boards and other internal parts from PC builds.

I now have a huge pile of boxes and stuff at the back door to take up to the garage, some of it quite heavy.  Sandy can take some of it to Sudbury the next time in as much of it is recyclable.

The migration to 16.04 seems to be working well and in a day or two I will also update the backup boot drive which was the primary boot drive until a week ago.  There are also two internal drives in that PC and its mirror image in Florida, one being a boot drive and the other being a backup drive.  There are routine hourly and weekly backups that run to the backup drive and the boot drive is supposed to be current enough so that I could use that to do a repair on the portable boot drive.  I brought the internal drive up to 16.04 as part of this process, so I'm almost there.  It was at 12.04.  An argument could be made to leave one drive at the older version but I don't think that I'll bother.

We have a funny dog.  She's so into fetching that she even plays by herself, tossing a ball and going after it.  She wants to go outside and goes out onto the deck and stares in waiting for me to pay attention and use the chuck-it.

There were squirrels on the deck a couple of times yesterday.  She whines and cries until she's let out and chases said squirrel until it gets away.  Yesterday a squirrel ran towards the end of the deck by Jason's, reversed course and came to the kitchen, reversed again etc. 4-5 times.  Cassie chased after it whining the entire time.  It would have made a great video but it all happened too quickly.

At night, after we stop eating (and she can tell), she brings the ball for fetching.  Over and over until I stop and put away the dishes.  Then I usually go into the den and watch TV for a short while.  She usually, at that point, stays in the kitchen.  I will then come into the kitchen and say "bedtime" and she races into the den and into her kennel and waits for me to bring her a piece of cheese.

I used to chuckle at how George & Geri's dogs were bound to a routine.  Cassie is worse than they were !

Onward ...
