Sep 10/11 - we got lucky, again

As far as we can tell, everything's ok in Florida.  We did lose the satellite dish, again.  The little boat is hanging from the front rope, balanced on the rear sling ... need to fix that ... and there's no power ... but none of that is surprising.  I should have secured the boat better, only thought about it sitting on the slings the day before Irma hit and Lisa tied that rope.

The track never had us taking the brunt of Irma unless it had turned north much earlier and made landfall on the east coast.  Whether it had hit Miami or the Keys and up the west coast, it was going to expend a major part of its energy before getting to us.  There was no major storm surge on the west coast; that was saved for Jacksonville / the St. John's River.  Storm surge does reach us but we are a long ways down the water from Ponce Inlet.  That said, with us only being 7.5' over sea level, it's always a possibility.

I see that the Florida airports are opening today, probably with limited services.  I would love to make a trip down and assess things myself but that depends on being able to rent a car and it would be nice to have power.

Our meeting in Windsor didn't wrap up until around 1pm.  It wasn't exactly crisp.  With stopping in Parry Sound at Sobey's and getting fuel, that put me home around 7:45 and I went to work immediately cooking the pickerel that Sandy had awaiting my grilling.

On the way to Windsor, I'd stopped at Sobey's in Barrie and picked up lunch as well as a jar of 6 picked eggs.  I was really looking for hard boiled eggs but figured they would suffice for breakfast.  They did but I made a major mistake when I put the leftovers (2 eggs in jar with liquid) into the car.  The jar wasn't wells sealed and it leaked.  I drove the entire way home, yes 7 hours, smelling that vinegar solution.  That wasn't the worst part.  My throat is still scratchy and I'm coughing from the acid.

Yesterday I found out what the problem was.  I'd assumed that the carpet under the passenger seat was wet and would dry out with driving but in fact, the liquid went under the rear passenger floor mat and that carpet stayed wet.  I dumped water in there repeatedly and sponged it out and the car is now in the barn with the fan running on that spot, drying it out.  There might be some residual smell but at least it will dry out.  I may have to get it shampooed.

I took advantage of the high water and moved the big dock into its winter resting place in the cove.  On Friday the dock was mostly floating on its step; yesterday it was down a smidgen so it was time to take advantage of the high water.  It floated right in, no winch etc. required.  Now I have to wrap the gazebo, string Christmas lights etc.  That's mostly a full day job.

Onward ...
