Aug 18-26 - where do I start?

Whew. A lot happening.

On the 18th, I left for Manitoulin island and was occupied from the 19th to the 22nd supporting Dick Felton, Peter Grant, JungAh Hong, John Cumming and Tiago Varella-CID as they rode the 1200. By the time I was back home on the 23rd, I'd driven about 2500 kms, including to/from Manitoulin.  I camped out at Dick and John's motel on the 22nd before heading home.

During the ride, I did drop into the cottage on my way from Sudbury to Huntsville, saw the gang briefly and headed on.  By that time on Friday the 20th, Jeffrey was here with the kids, plus David and Vanda and Mya. Stef was camping with friends.

By my return on Monday, Stef, Aaron and Lauren had been added to the mix, along with Kylie. Totally wiped out myself, I was so happy to have Stef meet me on the driveway and help me unload.

During the ride, the X5 was acting up. I made an appointment with the dealer in Sudbury; we took two cars in for Sandy's shopping trip and left the X5 behind. I'm making a run to Sudbury this morning with David to pick it up and lighten my wallet after some expensive repairs. What seemed like a transmission/ transfer case issue was actually misfires caused by a leaking injector. That, a new set of spark plugs and a hose will come to several thousand …

Oh, but the good news is that it wasn't the transfer case. Right.

Sheryl arrived and left during the period, a visit too short. Too much detail for a blog.  Kylie also left. We peaked at 8 cars parked here.

Last night we had dinner at Jake's. It was great but there were a lot of flies, houseflies, an annoyance. Them's the breaks, eating outside.

The crowd starts dispersing today and Jeffrey leaves tomorrow. I'm not sure when David is leaving.

David did a bunch of chores, from oil changes for the ATC's to weed whacking.  Yesterday we took down the Starlink temporary wood and salt bag mount on the peak and setup a proper mount on a tall pipe. Obstructions are now negligible and unless we have 15 feet of snow on the roof, we won't have a snow issue.

Jeffrey brought an Orbi router with two satellites that has replaced several routers. All of our eggs are now in one basket … We were also testing out coverage with an outdoor satellite which he may or may not take home with him.  Fast internet, wonderful WiFi coverage, what else could we want ?  Well …

The cell booster works but not as well as I'd like. We did find that due to the limited signal, too many devices also causes it to bog down. It's a good, but limited, backup. Perhaps a metal roof would block the oscillation or perhaps not.

I've now got an Ooma voip phone and a number port request into Ooma and Bell. Once that goes through, the Bell line goes. Come to think of it, I never checked with my security service. Hmm. Too many eggs in that Starlink basket ?  At some point I'd like to move the security service to cell.  I've got the hardware here, brought from NSB after I replaced it with Ring.

That's enough technology for today - oh yeah, my laptop has a major problem but I'll cover that another day.

Onward.
