With the great riding weather, the bikers to provide on-the-ride amusement and moderate winds, I decided to push on to 90 miles today. Also, we heard from Jason that he will be arriving today, not tomorrow, so I want to get in as much riding as possible.
The wind was still from the NE at about 7 mph, so I rode further north (which is the way that I wanted to go anyway since all the bikers are up north from here). Today I went past Palm Coast, which I only saw the outskirts of, through Bunnell, a small town, and then back to Palm Coast. It seems that the outskirts of PC wrap around Bunnell. The riding is easy, the road is mostly open, albeit rough in places, and the shoulder is accomodating.
I also had new tires today -- the Specialized Armadillo Elites. I'm not as crazy about them as the Specialized Mondo Pro's, but they are supposed to be pretty reliable as far as flats go, so they will probably be my tires for the cross country ride.
My handlebars started creaking yesterday, in a minor way, and today they got worse. When I got home I tightened everything up -- hopefully it will be ok for the next ride.
The new tires are finally on the X5 -- dropped it off at 7am today and picked it up after my ride. Sandy did her shopping for supper and nibbles.
Nutrition -- 3.5 water bottles (not enough ...); 1 cliff bar; 6 gels.
Ride stats -- 90.2 miles; 17.6 mph. -- I guess that the tires performed ok.
