I almost always have my cell phone with me when I go biking. I bring it for emergencies. I have gone without, but that's only because I forgot.
The only time that I turn it on during a ride, however, is when I'm doing multi-day brevets so that I can call Sandy to say that I made it through the day. If it's really late, I'll send her a text. I get hell if I don't !
Yesterday was a first. On a routine ride I stopped half-way, turned on the phone and called Sandy. No, I did not need support. What I did need was to hear how Sara's ultrasound went.
We, the big collective we, have a heartbeat. Whew. Life has changed. I now worry about things that never crossed my mind before.
Before the ride, I went to the gym for a session with Christie. After the ride, Sandy gave me a hand and we stripped the remainder of the papayas from the branches lying in the side yard. Putting most of them in a large storage bin, I went over to give them to Dolly. She makes relish with green papaya and also told me that they can be cooked like squash -- something we'll definitely try, since we've got a ton of them ourselves.
I've started to save the seeds from the ripe papayas that I'm eating. I'm going to plant them and start anew. I'm hooked on these things.
After dropping the papayas off with Dolly and Riley, I went to Food Lion and Publix to pick up a few things. My day was finished, other than dinner.
Sandy made a trip over to Daytona to do some Christmas shopping, hitting a few stores over there. All the big box stores are on International Speedway Blvd fairly close to the Speedway. The Volusia Mall is also there, with Macy's etc.
For dinner, we had Snapper, green beans and potatoes, the first and last done on the grill.
Today ? -- more deck work, perhaps, not sure what else. Check back tomorrow.
Onward !
