whoops ... that was yesterday. Today, Tuesday, I missed being under the car so much that I changed the oil. That's a quickie.
Sandy is working in the bathroom, not exactly a place where we can both work at one time. I did remove the two large mirrors before she got going, however, which was simpler than I thought. The smaller of the two was stuck to the wall with mastic, the larger on concealed hangers.
-----
Sandy finished up the wallpaper removal and still has to wash the wall. I removed the medicine cabinet, filling that in with drywall, taping and putting on a first coat of mud. I also removed the wainscotting around the indented toilet roll area -- hard to explain -- as that is destined to be filled in. The paneling is all glued to the wall, so the plaster layer is destroyed as its removed. Sandy would love to remove it entirely, but that would entail tearing out the drywall completely, i.e. gutting, and I'm just not ready for that.
The space for the toilet is quite narrow -- 25" -- so putting the toilet paper in there is an issue, if it's not recessed in the wall. We're struggling with that one. Sandy picked up a few different styles at HD but I'm not happy with any of them. Nor is she, really. There's no easy solution short of shrinking the shower stall !
So ... I did as much mudding as I could. Today it will have a chance to dry. Even that is not simple because the drywall has 1/8" layer of plaster on it. Why ? I don't know. The only house that we've previously owned that was plaster over drywall was in Port Credit. In that case it was 3/8" plaster over drywall. Just try to replace a door jamb with that kind of non-standard wall thickness ... and without a table saw to rip the wood !
Dinner ... Pompano ... sweet potatoes ... sauteed zucchini.
That's it for the 7th.
Today we're expecting to go boating but I can already see that it's quite windy out there. We'll see.
Onward ...
