I love the Daytona paper weather forecasts. They're always tongue-in-cheek. Yesterday's was like that, although I don't really remember what it was :).
I do remember the one from a week ago though, Speedweek and Bike Week over -- "Sunny and Traffic Clearing".
Yesterday's actual weather was kind of tongue-in-cheek from the heavens -- hot in the sun, cool in the wind. Cooler water has been blown in by the east wind that we had, or perhaps the current north wind, and water temps have fallen to the mid 70's. With strong winds, it's that temperature on the water as well.
We got a bit of a slow start yesterday, the younger Thompsons recovering from their day at Disney, but we packed a lunch and headed to the marina. It was easy getting out of the inlet, with the strong north wind, but quite wavy outside. With Sara's "delicate condition" as they used to call pregnancy, discretion was the better part and we headed to the island.
It was go-fly-a-kite day, at least for our boat. I got my kite up, boring that it is, tied it to the boat. Jeffrey flew his stunt kite, the first time that he's had it up since Nathan came down to Florida with him. That's a lifetime ago !
Emma played in the sand with the kid from the next boat; we all relaxed; we headed back. Al was quite busy at the marina but got us out and I did the obligatory rinse-off (boat) and rinse-out (motor). There was a queue of boats to be moved but it seems that most people like the convenience of just walking away, leaving the clean-up to the marina staff. They charge $20 for that service -- no big deal -- but I likely do a better job with my own boat.
Anyhoo ... back at the ranch we cleaned up and I got out that $5 airplane from Costco that's been sitting around forever, at least before we moved from Radnor. It had one broken part inside which Jeffrey fixed and it flew ok ... or at least until it broke. As Jeffrey said -- 6 years in the buying; 60 minutes in the making; 6 minutes in the breaking. At least now I don't have to look at it anymore !
One of these days I'm going to buy a RC Helicopter ... that's always been on my list !
We had shrimp, mixed-up-rice and spinach salad for dinner. Emma had mac & cheese and peas. We then had an ice cream cake that I'd picked up, shaped like a bunny face. I'm dangerous in the grocery store !
Jeffrey et al retired early, earlier than me, but I wasn't far behind.
There's nothing on the schedule today, but we'll find something, no doubt.
Onward !
