Jan 23 - major progress

It was cold and blowing snow for the first 30 miles or so and then it was just cold at 3F.  After that there was no more snow; the roads were dry and the driving was great.  As the day progressed it got closer and closer to the freezing point and as we descended to North Carolina, it warmed up.  By Orangeburg it was over 50 ... whew !

I stopped at a self-serve car wash north of Beckley and got rid of all the ice hanging off the car and some of the salt.  It now just looks dirty, not something out of some cold hell.

Leaving Erie a little after 7am, we arrived in Orangeburg around 6pm.  That's a good day's drive.

Today we've only got five hours or so to go, with any luck.

Onward ... some more ...
