Jul 12 - Amex Calling

The day ended with Amex calling to check on a recent charge -- literally within the last couple of minutes.  The first was a $1 charge, typically made to check out an account number; the second was for 8,165 BHT, which is the Thai currency ... nope, not me !

So ... they're sending me a new card and because it's an international delivery, won't get here on Monday, rather Wednesday according to them.  DHL will no doubt deliver it to Buchanan's Garage in town, since it won't come directly to the cottage.  I need the card for my trip to the UK, so timing is important.

Of course I'll also have to update all those standard charges too -- something that I just went through since this is a new card.  Great.

Earlier in the day I finally figured out what was going wrong with my restore to that hard drive and I'm now running live on that drive and everything has been copied over / backed up.  That too is a pain, makes one think about a raid setup.

I also piled some of the wood from Halle, a little less than one cord so that leaves 3+ to go.  Jim and I tackled his two projects, some plumbing and work on his sister's tombstone.  He had a sister pass away at 10 months old and the tombstone, made of concrete, was cracking.  We used a little top-n-bond on it, the same stuff that I've used on the stairs.  It seems to be holding up so hopefully this will work.  At the very least it will seal and stop water from getting in and freeze/thaw cycles further damaging the tombstone.

That's about it ... oh yes, did some work on the Granite Anvil food shopping list.

Today -- Mass at 4:30; I plan on going biking at 10 a.m. so that I'll be back in time.

Onward !

I use a separate card for all our "routine" charges (cable, electric, water/sewer, Apple, Kindle, etc.) for just that reason. By limiting the places we use that card, I think we limit the exposure. We use the Amex Costco card for everything else, and have had that skimmed about every other year. :-(
