We left the cottage closer to 10am than 9:30, stopping at Canadian Tire in Parry Sound on the way south and arriving at Stef's around 1pm. Oh yes, we also stopped at Metro close to Stef's.
Arriving at the house, we saw that the loading was well underway. Aaron and I packed two of his bikes (good ones) in the back of the X5 and then eventually Lauren's and Stef's bike on the bike rack. While Stef and Aaron packed some stuff in the VW wagon, Sandy and I went over to Tim Horton's nearby and had some lunch.
That reminds me of something -- how old am I ? Well, I remember when Tim Horton played hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs. If you said that you were going to Tim Horton's, you'd get a blank look. Similarly if you said that you were going to McDonald's, that would be like "Old McDonald had a farm, e-yi-e-yi-oh". Fast food before microwave's was cold ... :).
Anyway ... it was quite a while before we headed out; Sandy with the VW and me with the X5, Kylie and Lauren. We were going to go to David's and drop off the two bikes hanging on the back of the car before going to Costco.
That plan changed as we got close to Essa Road since Aaron called and asked us to pick up the key at the Lawyer's Office. Kylie called Sandy to tell her that we were making a side trip. We called Aaron back and he estimated that there wasn't much more loading to do ... but that time kept sliding !
With the key in hand, it didn't make sense dropping anything at David's, so we met up and went to the house, leaving all four bikes in the garage, but as agreed, not letting the kids into the house. We left the VW there, now having enough room for Sandy in the car and went to Alex's, which is literally within walking distance on the other side of Big Bay Point Road, and visited with them for an hour or so. We then went to Costco, did a little shopping, checked with Aaron and they were on the way but stuck in traffic due to thunderstorms.
On our way to Barrie it rained heavily or rather the skies opened. I felt sorry for the guy with the couch and loveseat in the back of his pickup truck that we'd just passed ... those are now likely trash unless he found some place to pull off. Visibility wasn't great and I guess that it got even worse in Toronto.
We had dinner with the kids at Milestones across from Costco and then went to the Panago Pizza by David's store to pick up something for Stef and Aaron.
Long story short, Stef and Aaron arrived at their new house around 8:30, if my timing is correct and the truck arrived around 9pm. At that point we headed out, getting back to the cottage at 11:30.
The house looks great ! It's spotless and ready for move-in. I have no idea how long they were unloading last night -- that would be faster than loading ... and I suspect that the garage is full to the ceiling ! They plan on doing a bunch of painting this coming week so they'll want a minimum of furniture actually in the house.
They will have a very busy week.
While we were eating at Milestones, Sandy's phone rang and it was David saying "there's no one at the house" ... yup ... this took a long time. I'd suspected that it would take a long time based on our experience loading 1/2 of the Radnor house (1/2 went north; 1/2 went south). Both of those 1/2 loads took much of a day and that was loading stuff that was professionally packed, so in large boxes and more manageable than a self-packed situation.
Onward ! We'll be interested in seeing the house in a week or two after painting is complete and furniture in place.
