May 2 - an at-home day

I did get out, but not riding.  Big Green was heading our way and it rained heavily from late morning on.

So ... I went to the license bureau and got the registration settled for the new trailer.  I already had a plate from the boat trailer that I sold and so it was only a transfer fee of $12 and change.  This entire thing has really turned out to be a trade -- the new trailer cost just me exactly what I got selling the old one ... except that I'll actually use this one !  Of course if you step back to buying the boat trailer in the first place, that was a bad decision and I lost money, but I'll content myself with results in the last six months :).

While I was at the license bureau on Canal Street, I hit the barber shop, long overdue, but since it was next door, hard to walk by with my unruly mop.

Back home, I headed out again to Advance Auto Parts and picked up a couple of things, notably an oil filter for Sandy's car and diesel emission fluid.  They don't stock an oil filter for the X5, for some reason.  I topped up the diesel emission fluid and I'm now puzzling over whether the countdown mileage actually resets itself; so far no.  It won't stop on me because the tanks are full now, but it would be nice to know how much is in the tanks.

It never stopped raining long enough for me to change Sandy's oil, so that awaits me.

Later I went to Home Depot and picked up D-Rings for the interior sides of the trailer so that I can tie down the bikes.  My intent is to use a piece of plywood and cable tie the front and back wheels to rings, screw the plywood to the floor and then bungee the top-tubes of the bikes to the sides of the trailer.  That will keep them nice and secure, standing up, like in a bike rack.  At some point I might do something easier to maintain, but this will do for now ... and it's cheap.  I have a couple of fork mounts up north so there's no point in investing in more of those.

Sandy has been working in the garden, rain and shine.  Actually she did take a break during the heaviest of the rain.  Right now she's mulching - pine needle mulch.  It helps keep the weeds at bay.

... and right now it's approaching 5pm ...

.............

Even though I've seen it before, I started watching Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts.  It's amusing but pretty far fetched.  Well into it, I recorded the balance with the DVR while having dinner and then finished up afterwards.  Sandy wasn't interested.  I then actually stayed awake for another episode of The Twilight Zone.  We had triggerfish for dinner, probably the last that I'll have this Florida season, since it's not something that I'll bother with for myself in the few days that I'm "Home Alone".

Today ... biking ?  Let me check ...there's a mass of green headed our way again.  I can manage the green but it's that yellow and red stuff inside that I'd rather skip.  Tomorrow we plan to go boating so Monday might be my next day out.  Monday I have a dentist appointment at 1:40, so if I do that, it will be early.  I'll have to hit the road pretty consistently next week to build up to a few days off as I head north.  Once north, the riding is the usual yucky stuff on 522 and 69 but I need to keep going because soon we'll be heading to the U.K. ...

Onward ...
