May 21 - a do everything day

I hope that it's not a coincidence.  I reviewed the video to see how to get at the carburetor for the 4-wheeler and, without even removing it, pulled the top of the float off and removed the diaphragm and needle valve below ... put them back in and voila, it started right up and ran like a champ all day.  Would it have run anyway ?  It wasn't running that well the day before and there hasn't been a day that didn't require quick-start, so I won't really know until I've had a few days in a row.

The carb was surprisingly clean inside, none of the build-up that I saw in the video.  That could be due to the spraying of cleaner that I've done, who knows.  I shouldn't be writing this as it will jinx me !

I now have to do the same with the 3-wheeler except that it's not quite as easy to get at the carb.  I have to remove the gas tank.

I had been thinking of a bike ride but decided that the bugs were so bad that I'd have problems on 522; itchy scalp syndrome.  I worked out on the trainer for a while; also on the elliptical (Sandy hasn't used it yet this year), and with weights.

I hauled wood for a while, bringing down 1/2 cord to the woodbox by the house.   Three more times doing that and it will be full.  I've now emptied the row of firewood adjacent to the generator.

I then brought the old yellow trailer down to the now-falling-down structure by the satellite dishes and, over the course of the next two or so hours, dismantled that, cutting it down to simply a stand for some wood and pipes that I'm saving.  All the large plastic pipe is loaded up on to the yellow trailer as well as the leftover wood.  This will go to the dump, including the trailer.

Cutting this thing down wasn't easy.   I ended up using the reciprocating saw. I've now got all the aforementioned stuff on the trailer as well as a large pile of wood that has nails etc. that needs burning.

Sandy helped me roll up the good pipe, i.e. 1" and 1.25" diameter stuff that I actually use, and it's on the pile as well instead of being strewn over the ground.

Sandy, meanwhile, raked leaves and piled them on top of the beds in the garden.  That will keep down the weeds.  It's almost like it's fall .... except that we're not going south, we're heading to the U.K. ... soon.  She also did some raking out front.

I got the weed eater going and "mowed" the grass by the veggie garden once Sandy was finished raking.  I'll be doing the entire yard before we leave.

I didn't mention to Jason that I actually got my Dad's old wheelbarrow repaired.  We'd both been looking for a wheel for it thinking that you can't actually buy tires separately that size.  That's true, but I was able to remove the tire from a wheel that had been taken off of the hand-truck and install it on the wheelbarrow wheel, and with the tube patched for same, it's live again !

I also went into town, dropped off several cases of empty wine bottles and picked up our mail.  I now have a dump key !  I talked to the mail lady (don't know her name) and she said that she'd hold our mail over the winter.  I gave her authorization for Jim and Bonnie to pick up our mail.  I asked her about our Macleans magazines, because Sandy hasn't been receiving them since February (they seem to have stopped when our mail was switched temporarily to Buchanan's handling the mail).  She said that they're individually tagged and that we should get them.  Ok, I said that if we didn't receive a magazine in the next week, that we'd followup with Macleans.  Sandy reads the online version but Bonnie takes the paper versions and gives them to the Parry Sound hospital, I believe.

I started doing the application for the Florida 1200k and also did some followup on the Osprey Road dumping situation.  I'll have to talk to Ernie.  That won't be a pleasant conversation, but needs to be done.

Otherwise ... that was enough.  The day turned sunny and quite warm, beautiful actually.  The only way to do anything outside was with a bug jacket.  The black flies were in clouds, even early on and up high ....

Speaking of early and up high, I also cleaned my evestroughs (Canada) / gutters (U.S.).  Now when it rains the water won't pour over the front ... at least for one rain storm.  In fact, I should clean by the downspout immediately after the next storm because it will wash all the leftovers to the end of the gutter.

Oh ... there's a Canada Goose swimming out front, all by him/her self.  Wrong ... there's another.  There are more of them all the time.

Today ... Sudbury ?  We'll see.  Sandy is definitely going; I might.

Onward ....
