I'm working through my stock of frozen bananas. What are they good for, you ask ? Well, banana bread, of course. The fourth loaf is baking as I write this. I haven't decided where I'm going to use four loaves of BB but riders will get them somewhere !
Whew. What an ordeal. I don't remember specifically what I did on the 10th ... did Dick and I go for a ride ? Probably. Yes, and it was bloody hot. We went in the afternoon after brunch at the SYC.
I've changed my eating. I'm dropping carbs almost completely. We'll see how that works out but so far, so good. I've been trimming the last couple of weeks and on the 1200k pre-ride, I had cut way down. As a result, I didn't bonk, only consumed a gel or two, ran on fat the entire time. I felt great. On my local rides, I don't need to have any gels and never feel a dip in my energy. I'm almost there.
Of course I get carbs from veggies, but I'm not eating any bread, have a minimum of cereal, yes, last couple of days no beer (wine instead, 2 grams in a glass vs 12 grams in a beer) and no or minimum starch for dinner. I'm making the transition. This should be interesting.
Dick and I spent almost all day yesterday assembling rider packets. I ran over to Staples and printed the brevet cards, Dick folded them. I printed labels for the envelopes, kicked myself for not ordering tyvek envelopes online as they were too expensive at the store and the kraft envelopes are a pain. Regardless. T-shirt, Jersey, Brevet Card, SPOT, Baggie ... that's about it for the rider packet. Whoops, I meant to include cue sheets ... oh well, they can pick those up from my stack as they register.
We've got boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff to load in the car, from the rider packets to the mugs to two gigantic 5 liter coffee pumpers that arrived yesterday ... we'll see how this works out.
As of this morning we're basically underway. We plan to leave here around 10am, stop at Costco along the way, get to Fort Myers Beach and meet, greet, help etc. Ed and Alain will be there with the trucks loading.
Onward ? I sure hope so ! I'm definitely running out of steam on this !
