It was a beautiful, sunny day ...
I put out the minnow traps and when I returned, heard Chili barking so I knew that the Davies were in. Abby was barking back, of course. We sat down by the water for a bit and then once David was up, he and I tackled his front brakes.
His driver's side brake was incredibly corroded, took some time to disassemble. Gone were any thoughts of salvaging the calipers. We'd have had to file off some of the rust to get new pads in place.
For no particular reason, each one of these is different. Of the ones that I've done, the two BMW's are similar, but not identical; Jason's Focus, different again and certainly David's Honda has a slightly different setup. I suppose that if I did this for a living, I'd soon see all the permutations and combinations, but haven't yet !
It took several trips to the basement to add to the growing pile of tools, but that's not unusual. From a variety of sockets to a hammer ... yes, a hammer, eventually we finished up. I bowed out at that point, heading for a bike ride, while David tackled the passenger side. The first took us, perhaps, an hour or more; the second took him 15 minutes ? Bleeding the line on that side remains, and cleanup, which we will do this morning.
Had we done the passenger side first, we'd have likely concluded that he didn't need new calipers. There's a lot of salt dumped by the MTO that ends up in the middle of the road, apparently !
While I rode, Sandy took Lauren to French River Trading Post. David chilled, I guess, he enjoys the peace and quiet here. Once I was home, he and I went and picked up the minnows from the traps; we got a few but not the haul that I'd hoped. Then, showered and changed, we sat in the gazebo and the Davies joined us.
Soon afterwards, Lauren came out and said that Jeffrey had called and he was at 69 & 522 ! Sandy hadn't expected him so early and hadn't really thought through supper for the gang. It all worked out though; they arrived at 7:30; we got organized and ate in shifts, which was really what was going to happen anyway.
Even before dinner, Lauren was out with Zoe and Emma on the new kayaks. It's going to be a busy time !
Stef and Aaron arrive today, completing the picture, so to speak. Unfortunately Kylie can't join us as she's working at the Huntsville camp, but as they get older, that will be more the norm.
Onward !
