I'm continuing to rip the movies that I have on self-created DVD's. These were all recorded from live TV, some long ago when we lived in Radnor. Each one takes about 20 minutes to rip, so basically whenever I pass by the pc or if I'm here doing something and a prior one has ended, I throw in another DVD.
I am going to run out of space. Each one runs a gb or so in size. I plan on ordering another couple of hard drives for this material, which will be delivered to Jeffrey to bring up. Why two drives ? Well, so that I can back it up, of course.
My other project for yesterday was to get out the weed eater and finish off the "lawn". That crapped out. I give up on that machine. I've spent so much time working on that carburetor. It's time for a new one, a good one, which I will pick up in Parry Sound on the way north tomorrow.
The mosquitoes were busy by the barbecue last night at dinner. That's to be expected as new crops keep hatching. It will take a while for the catcher to interrupt the breeding cycle but it has helped; I see lots of drowned mosquitoes -- those ones won't be producing new ones !
Carpenter ants are everywhere on the property. Big ones. We've also seen a few in the house over the past weeks; hopefully those are just foraging, checking the place out, visiting from outside. I've sprayed around the perimeter of the house and put out bait in a variety of places outside. There must be some big nests around.
I went into Loring for Mass yesterday; visited with my Aunt Ruth, Christine and Maurice and their son, Anne and her daughter.
Tomorrow we head to Mississauga for dentist cleaning appointments. We're taking two cars because Sandy is staying overnight to visit with Joyce, who is back from Hong Kong. Her employment with the HK firm is sort-of ended; they sent her back to Canada and she's part-time with them for the next few months. In the meantime she'll be looking for a full-time job. She'd been hoping that the HK assignment would basically take her through retirement, I think, but I guess that it proved to be too expensive to keep her on, as the ex-pat sort of posting included additional expenses, like housing. She still owns a house in Oakville and it's rented out. I think that she'll keep it that way as that's paying for itself and presumably building up some equity. Life is complicated.
I was planning on going fishing this a.m. but right now I can barely see the trees in front of me, the fog is so dense. If that clears in some reasonable fashion, I'll go out. We had the bass for dinner last night so we're due for some more !
Today should also be a riding day ...
Onward !
