No bugs at the docks; too windy for them ! It was that kind of day. It stayed cool, with the NE wind, only hitting 20C. By sunset it was glassy calm, unlike the night before where the wind continued through the night. We were sitting in the gazebo with Jason and Lorraine, laughing at the black flies and mosquitoes coating the screen, all hungry for blood !
It did seem that the black fly numbers were down but perhaps that's just the wind.
It's 39F right now, rather brisk. I've put on a fire. Naturally we'll have the windows open later in the day as it warms up.
Early in the day I had gone into Britt for Mass. It was pretty crowded, for Britt that is, a combination of regulars who I recognized and weekenders. I went into the Marina looking for epoxy resin but they didn't have any. I'll pick up some in Sudbury or Barrie. I need to do some repairs on the little boat.
Speaking of the little boat, David helped me unload the Merc 25 out of the 4x6 trailer and we mounted it on the back of the 4-wheeler trailer. Bringing it down to the house, I replaced the remote steering bracket with the tiller but couldn't figure out the mechanical connection for throttle and gear change. I think that I'm missing some parts. The electrical side also needs to be addressed, which should be easy, but if I can't get the mechanical side to work, I'm thinking that I'll take it into Mike in Loring.
Hindsight is great. I should have had North Causeway Marine install the tiller when they took the motor off the old Whaler. That would have made things easier !
David and Vanda made full use of the place, playing pool, air hockey, going for a 4-wheeler ride. We had steak for dinner; Vanda providing desert which was a mixture of fresh fruit with blood orange infused olive oil & chocolate balsamic vinegar drizzled on top. Very interesting !
While going to Britt, I tried to see what my cellular signal strength was at various points along the way. There's a "field test" mode that I used to set the iPhone to, but it only seems to provide values once you actually can make a connection. I'm trying to see if a signal strength booster will actually work here. Such a device only works if there's actually a signal.
What else ... lots of swimming and playing for Cassie ... the pack of dogs keeping busy. Amanda left last night (definite) and perhaps Barry, not sure about him, which would have reduced the dog count by one. Gavin and Kyle will leave late today; Jason, Lorraine and Kim will leave tomorrow. Cassie will be stuck with just us and it will be even quieter when I head out to my bike rides on Saturday.
Onward ...
