Aug 28 - Scilla

Yes, Scilla. Not quite Sicily but close. Today we will take the 20 minute ferry to complete the journey.

I went to Mass close to our Villa in Massa Lubrense. It was advertised online as 8:30 but at that time a priest came in and he and the dozen widows (guessing) recited a litany for the next half hour. Mass was actually at 9am. Whatever. By that time another dozen people had arrived including two men.

This wasn't the Mass at the cathedral around the corner which is at 11. This was in a chapel attached to a convent.

One thing about Italy - when I'm looking for a church, I don't have to check denomination !

We set out for Scilla, which took about six hours. The place was jam packed, we followed the road last our hotel; no place to park. It's truly amazing how the pack cars into these beach towns. We ended up at a dead end at a beach, followed by other cars, barely room to turn around but no room to pass cars coming in. This takes a lot of patience. We worked our way back and Sandy called the hotel. Long story but we ended up on the street a couple of blocks away. By that time some people were heading out and we found a spot.

Walk with the beach crowds, have a drink by the water, back to our room for a bit, dinner at a restaurant that opened at 8pm, still hungry having a snack - salad and antipasto - more wine - well after 11pm back to the hotel.

Another day done - our trip to Taormina Sicily should be less than 2 hours but will be more, of course.

Onward. !
