I had a quick in/out of Sudbury with 7:30 a.m. appointment. He did another "adjustment" but it was clear to me that their focus was on developing another "regular" customer. He went through the analysis produced by their machines and there were no surprises in a general sense. However, it was much too canned, much too off-the-shelf. I didn't need material on sitting straight, how to lift something heavy etc. For the price, I could have an hour with a personal trainer and accomplish more.
However, I did accomplish a couple of things in Sudbury, visiting Canadian Tire and picking up a new fuel line for the Merc 25, which is now installed, getting rid of the band-aid approach. I took it for a good long ride. I then went to the recycling depot and emptied the car and Starbucks for a cappuccino :).
Gavin was ready to do something with the wood splitter, so I pulled it out of the barn and started it up -- first pull -- great ! With the 4-wheeler, I brought it around to him and did a quick demo. He and Amanda split the wood later and brought it back to the barn.
I did some bicycle maintenance, getting it ready for the 1000k this weekend and, continuing on a bicycle theme, did some work on Randonneurs Ontario financials. We had a conference call planned for that evening.
Early in the day I'd gotten an email from a friend on the Board asking if I was able to do a same-day wire transfer to the US. Assuming that he needed to get some minor sum of money to some organization for an activity that he'd signed up for, I did a little research and concluded that it was possible, albeit difficult. A couple of exchanges later and he sent me the wire transfer instructions and the amount -- which was large -- without any real explanation. I checked things out and in the meantime waited for an explanation. The person who would be receiving the money, interestingly enough, lives in Hemet, where Arlene lives.
Well, the explanation, when it came, made things clearer. It was bogus. The email address, which I hadn't paid attention to, was bogus. I'd also emailed the friend directly and it wasn't him. I continued to string this person along and after talking to Arlene, decided to call the bank and report the mule/laundering/fraud vs calling the police. I won't likely hear anything back due to privacy concerns, but it was an interesting exercise.
Even though I am well aware of the possibility of internet fraud, I hadn't noticed the sender's email address. It sounded enough like my friend that I didn't question it at first because he is aware that I have the currency broker account and on the surface it was a reasonable request. It was an interesting exercise.
I helped get Gavin and Amanda setup so that they could watch videos from my Plex server. I'd thought that the spare Sony DVD player was one of the streaming ones, and brought it over, but no. We ended up using his laptop, which I presume he hooked up to the TV. I could swap the streaming DVD player in my den for the non-streaming, since I've also got the ROKU, but this was a short-term fix.
We had sausages for dinner, which became a little rushed because of the 8pm call. That call wrapped up around 9:30 and I watched TV for a half-hour before turning in.
Today -- off to Toronto's Kensington Market area to see Harris and Debbie. Gavin will look after Cassie while we're out.
Onward !
