Sep 24 - I forgot

Yeah, always things forgotten ...

I'd expected to make a significant dent in the woodpile behind the woodpile, but with the warm weather, that wasn't going to happen.  David and Vanda had worked from that woodpile (the one behind my Dad's little woodshed), in filling up the woodbox behind the house.  I decided to move the rest of the wood six feet away into the woodshed.  That didn't take a lot of time and will ensure that it's dried out for use.

Neighbourhood Watch -- there was a pickup truck parked at Don's that hadn't been there earlier; Sandy noticed it.  She did a walk around the properties and didn't see anyone (was that wise ?), and once I was back from my cycling, I did the same.  I then had a shower and did another walk around, checking doors.  All seemed ok although I did notice that the Davies' screens were open - did they leave them that way ?  It was almost as if someone had opened them and checked the sliding doors.  Otherwise all seemed ok.

Checking the truck, it wasn't even locked.  There were cell phones sitting on the front seat.  I wrote down the licence number just in case so that if something did take place (thinking of the break-ins last year), I could report that to the Police.  I also called Don's number in Penetang.

When Sandy came back from her walk, she ran into the guys -- hunters in orange -- and they said that they were friends of Don, in fact one of the guys had helped with construction -- and that the Maurice's were in Connecticut.

What if they had been "bad guys" ... with guns ... we don't normally think of things like that up here (or anywhere, for that matter) but so much is happening these days.  That shooting in Burlington WA was only 4 miles from where I was in Mt. Vernon for the Cascade 1200k in June ...

Oh yes, and I've been making lists.  I'm running for one of the open Randonneurs USA board seats  I'm making lists of people that I know, influencers etc. to get the word out once my candidacy is posted.  We shall see.  I don't like beauty contests but Paul Rozelle and Dan Driscoll have persuaded me to run.  It didn't take a lot of persuading, but I wouldn't have done so purely on posting a bio.  Paul is running for RBA liason, so we're comparing notes on people we know etc.

Onward ...
