Sep 25 - the toes knows

It can't get much nicer for a Fall day.  Early in the a.m. the sun was dancing on the ceiling, reflections from the lake.  Glassy calm for most of the day with the occasional bit of light breeze coming up and then dying; a great day for Sandy to take advantage of the kayak and show off her pedicure.

The water at 67.5F (that 0.5 is important !), I worked at the waterfront, moving some more rocks and then re-roping the bumpers on the docks, a mini project long overdue.  It was a lot easier moving rocks with the dock out of the way !  Although the air temperature wasn't much over 60F, it was quite warm in the sun and working up to my knees in the water, it didn't feel cold either.  Cassie "helped" me at times, bounding around in the water as I worked.  Ultimately I'd like to move some large rocks out in front of the crib that supports the gazebo, but that's a project for another day; one for David to help.

Tempting though it was, I didn't wrap the gazebo.  It looks quite forlorn once it's wrapped, the true look of a summer gone by.  I'll get to it, perhaps next weekend.  It's not going anywhere.

I've got other "prepare for winter" stuff to do -- boats up to the barn, 4x6 trailer down to the driveway ready to load, power washer, trimmer and chainsaw in the basement, lake pump drained and winterized ... all in good time.   We leave two weeks from today (Monday); I'll putter my way through all that.

My plan is to put the Whaler in the barn as well as the little boat with the 25.  If it will fit, the little boat will go on the Bayliner trailer.  It's obviously way too big but as long as it doesn't fall between the rails, that should work. The alternative is to take the motor off the boat; move it to the garage; flip the boat at the waterfront.

It's supposed to rain today, listed on the forecast at 100%.  What the forecast should really look like is a percentage probability plotted against the time of day.  You get some of that if you look at the hour-by-hour.  The prediction says that it's supposed to rain around 9:30 a.m., but guess what -- some drops just appeared on the deck. Scratch one more prediction !

I see from Facebook that Stef's still out there SUP-ping.  She and Aaron have had a blast this summer taking lessons and getting out with a crowd of SUP-ers.  They're moving into wetsuit weather now.

Matt & Shelly Carter are up for the week; Stan and Kathy just left.  People were in at the Robinson's (I know, it's not the Robinson's anymore) and, in fact, Sandy saw some kids in the water -- in the water more than up to their knees !  Hey, Stef used to go swimming in our Mississauga pool when it was colder than the lake is now.

Jim and Sheryl are off on their Viking Cruise adventure, leaving from Amsterdam.  The river cruise ship looks quite neat, two story with each room having a balcony -- kind of like an oceanfront motel on the water ... a nice motel :).  I'm sure that they'll have a great time.

Jason will be coming up sometime to close up; he plans to do that before Thanksgiving.

I created a project for myself at end of day yesterday by spilling a glass of red wine on the carpet (and on myself) in the den.  I hadn't even had a sip of wine yet !  There was no way that I could deal with it there, so I rolled it up, hauled it out onto the deck and hosed and brushed it off.  I then hung it over the railing and did some more hosing off.  At that point it weighed a ton, so it went back on the deck and I used the wet-dry vac to suck most of the water out of it and then Sandy helped me roll it up and put it in the basement.  The floor fan that I have ran all night, making it ripple like Aladin's magic carpet.  It's dry now.  I'll move it back upstairs later this morning.

That kept the dehumidifier going - the humidity down there jumped from mid-40's to mid-50's and it's now back down.

That floor fan is a wonderful thing.  I'd bought it during our construction to help keep the basement floor dry.  It's one of those powerful orange industrial ones that you see in roadside service center restrooms, blows along the floor.

What else ?  That's pretty much it -- until I hit "Publish" that is, and something else will come to mind.

Onward !
